Hello, this is my first ever custom PC build! I have tried to get many opinions on this and have came up with this so far. My build will mostly be for gaming, schoolwork, and regular everyday use. I would like to stick with the NZXT S340 Elite and have a black style but with a few RGBs to change the color inside of the case. I will probably stick with the stock cooler unless it is just horrible. I don't plan on overclocking a lot either. Other than that, I am open to suggestions but please just explain why so I understand! :) Thanks!

I didn't realize that I was doing that. Would you recommend going to Ryzen 7 1700X or getting a non X motherboard?

You can do a bit better for the budget.

other users will come up with their own explanations regarding OC , but if you put a 1700X on your mobo that would be full OC :)

Alright I will do that then! Also since this CPU doesn't come with a CPU fan, what would be best for it?

a 240 mm liquid cooler should do , just make sure it comes with an AM4 bracket , or look for a bracket on amazon , ..

1. Id upgrade the storage in both instances.

-Samsung Evo at same size should be maybe $10 more which is worth it to my eyes for the +2 years of warranty alone.
-An extra $30 will get you an SSHD w/ + 3 years of warranty and 50% more gaming speed

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/hdd-charts-2013/-17-PCMark-7-Gaming,2915.html

Seagate SSD: 9.76 MB/sec in Gaming / 5 year warranty / 0.43% RMA rate
Seagate Barracuda: 6.56 MB/sec in Gaming / 2 year warranty / 0.82% RMA rate

2. Can not recommend the GFX card given recent history w/ EVGA SC and FTW cards

3. Before making final decision, consider the Phanteks' Enthoo Luxe, Mini XL, and P400 cases which provide compatibility w/ Phantels LED systems... Phanteks fan also have the best performance / noise ration on the market and have the new RGB Halo frames
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/phanteks-halo-lux-rgb-fan-frames,35208.html

4. Phanteks also has the fan hub which provides control of up to 11 fans.

5. As for the coolers, there's not a 2 x 120mm or 2 x 140mm CLC in existence that can beat the better air coolers at half their price. The Kraken X62 is $165 and it comes with an inadequate pump, mixed metals and inefficient aluminum radiator ... the Swiftech kicks its tail for $15 less

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYKdKVxbnp8&t=1534s

At 23:00 we see the Kraken losing by 5C and to get that close the Kaken is 2.5 times as loud. At 24;20 it gets really ridiculous when the testers turn the Swiftech's fans down to minimum speed and the Krakens to maximum speed.,,and the Kraken still can't deliver better temps when 5 times as loud.

This is a much better build. This will have a way bigger impact in games than switching to a x series cpu (the x's are jsut clocked a bit higher but a normal 1700 can be oc'ed to the x level without any porblem).

Also the only real difference between a b350 board and x370 board is that the 370 support sli and crossfire which the 350 doesn't (not that it matters anyways).

Bit more than SLI / CF .. as compared to B350, X370 offers

2 more PCIe 2.0 slots
4 more USB 3.0
2 more SATA

But the other thing that comes into play ... at least on Intel platform, is that once you choose a MoBo with a game worthy sound system, it already has X370. So before ya jump on the B359, Id wanan check the sound, LAN and other onboard components before making a final decision.

The Strix B350-F seems to be Ok at least in the sound department and the $15 rebate is attractive

Isn't there a overclock limit for Ryzen? I think it's 4.0 or 4.1? That being said is the extra features of X370 motherboard worth the extra cost? If the better sound & more ports is worth it then I would probably still pair it with the 1700 and put that extra money into a larger/better SSD or even into a better GPU such as the GTX 1080 ti.

You end up spending 200$ more and getting a cpu that is a teeny tiny bit faster. Not really a great thing. Honestly just pick your first build if you really want the x370 board and get a 1080 instead of a 1070. Then let the asus board auto oc the 1700 and you are good to go.
