I'm building a new computer for the first time since 2011. Quite a few things have changed since then, so I appreciate you providing your thoughts on my new build (Or at least phase 1 of it). Thanks in advance for your comments.
Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: this week
Budget Range: I'd like to be sub $2k all in on this first phase of the build
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming
Are you buying a monitor: Not right now
Parts to Upgrade: CPU, MB, RAM, SSD, PSU, CPU Cooler, Case
Do you need to buy OS: Yes
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Probably Newegg or Amazon but not picky
Location: Raleigh, NC
Parts Preferences: I'm partial to Seasonic for power supplies
Overclocking: Not right now - I'll be adding a custom water cooling loop later and will OC then
SLI or Crossfire: No
Your Monitor Resolution: 1200p but will upgrade later in the year
Additional Comments:
I'm holding off on the video card for the moment - I'm building a new computer now because my current computer is starting to die. I don't love the GPU situation at the moment, and I'm happy waiting through the year to see if the landscape changes.
I'm also looking to build a water cooling loop into this build down the road - later this year, including a 420 or 480 radiator for CPU & GPU, so I'm going light on the CPU cooler for the moment.
I like the P5 case, but it's got a bit of a weird design. Do I need to put a few fans in it if I'm running with the sides off (ie in an open configuration?) Once i've got a radiator in there later this year, it won't matter, but until then, I'm not sure what to do.
Lastly, I'm probably going a bit overkill on RAM and SSD, but that's just my preference so I don't have to change out hardware too much over time. I've also got a pretty strong preference to avoid multiple drives, which is why I've gone with a 2TB ssd.
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: See above

Include a list of any parts you have already selected with descriptively labeled links for parts. Please do not post only links.
I'm hanging on to my video card for the time being: a GTX 970. I'll be upgrading it later in the year - I'd like to see if AMD can pull anything out of their hat.
