Hi all,

Looking to build my first PC and was hoping that someone could look over the build and let me know if I’m on the right track. I’m sure some of the parts are overkill or not enough, so any input, alternatives or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

What I'm most nervous about it making sure the parts are compatible with each other. I did as much research as I could on my own, but figured I'm at the point where it's time to ask the experts.

Approximate Purchase Date: Next few weeks

Budget Range: $750-$1250

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Mostly for gaming. I’d like to have 2 monitors on it, but with the option to add a third later on (the extra monitors would be for work, not necessarily gaming). I’m really just looking for a PC that can smoothly run games at 1080p. I’d also love to not have to replace this computer in 2-3 years if possible.

Overclocking: Not going to overclock

Country: USA

Parts Preferences:

CPU: Haswell i7-4770, $300 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116900)

Motherboard: ASUS Z87M-PLUS, $129 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8139499&SRCCODE=WEBGOO0163C&cm_mmc_o=mH4CjC7BBTkwCjCECjCE&gclid=CM7m2ouE4LoCFallOgodmjMAXQ)

Memory (16BG total): Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz (haven’t price shopped yet)

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 760, $250 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125466)

Case: CM Storm Enforcer (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119240)

Hard Drive: Looking for suggestions. Not crazy about paying up for a SSD right now, but open to any thoughts. Currently looking at a 2 TB WD Red.

DVD Drive: I’m honestly not even sure I need a DVD drive… as I buy all my games on steam. That beign said, if I do choose to get one, maybe the Asus 24x dvd-rw , $23 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204)

Power Supply: Looking at the Corsair Enthusiast Series. Not sure I would be better off with 650w or 750?

Coolers: Corsair H60, approximately $60 last I checked.

OS: Windows 8, $100

Total Cost: Currently somewhere around $1150-$1250

Thanks in advance for all the help and please don't be shy about suggestions/improvements!

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions everyone.

@lp231: no monitor, no over clocking

Ok so here is updated build with suggestions (below). Still stuck on the hard drive... Is ssd worth it?

Any thoughts on updated build?

Don't cut from the GPU, in my opinion. Consider a HD 280X or a GTX 770, you won't regret it. Grab at least a vanilla HD 7970 from a reputable brand, these are sold at very affordable prices now (similarly priced to a GTX 760). If you aren't thinking about overclocking, why get a K version of CPU and why 3rd party CPU cooler?

Hey tech, thanks for the info. I re-did the build with th gtx 770 as you suggested. The reason for the k processor was only because the non-k version is $4 difference, and with the cooler being $30 I can have the option to overlock later if necessary (don't plan to but for $35 extra it's nice to have the option - if it was any more $ I would remove both the cooler and the k processor).

Here is new build:

Thanks for all the input everyone. One last question, I'm split between a USB and PCIe wireless adapter. My current router is an Apple Extreme and all my computers are running on wireless n (has to be wireless unfortunately due to house layout). Any suggestions on a wireless adapter (something that isn't overly expensive)?

Thanks all
