I have never built a computer before, I have selected part for my build, but I don't know if I can get better parts on my budget ($700-$800) or if the selected parts will fit together. here is what I have (Found all parts on Newegg).

Solution

The one you posted uses Z97 motherboard which is socket LGA1150 while i5-6500 is socket LGA1151 so they are not compatible.

Also, both R9 390 and GTX 970 can use DX12 in Windows 10 and both work with the latest DX11. I recommend R9 390 Nitro over the 970.

That's a good build as well. I would recommend the 390 over the 970 though.

ASrock all the way because they got Sky OC which allows overclocking of locked Skylake chips.

z97 is wrong..it wont work..u need 1151 socket..like z170,its good build but ur already at 830 with no storage

Oh yeah crap. Not Z97. You need Z170 bro

rly? my bad.didnt know that xd

For the money that you give 700-800$ you dont go with that cpu..its a dead socket its a bad cpu for that badget...usually this cpu is for systems at around 500$..the i5 6500 is faaar better than fx,it supports ddr 4 and it is better overall, also the 390 is better than the 960,u can see reviews for that.
Your friend's build was fine,he just made a mistake and put the wrong mobo, also the case is up to you..

Thanks guys I really appreciate the help, Ill go with Olegs build and see how it turns out, I'm not great with figuring out which parts go with what, hopefully from experience I'll get better XD
