Looking for advice on a build for my first desktop gaming PC after using a laptop for years. Are there any changes you would make?

Solution
be honest, who uses a dvd drive nowadays?
I would toss that away and get a phanteks p400s or a nzxt s240
mobo requires a bios update if you can't do this yourself get a x470 motherboard.

looks solid man have fun:)
It looks really good! Personally, I would bump the ryzen up to a 2600x with a good cooler, I would also recommend instead of using the wireless adapter move your pc closer to the router and run a wire to it. If you have to use wireless that's fine as well.

Is updating the bios difficult or is it something I'd be able to do with no prior experience?

its not hard, but you need a first gen ryzen chip for it.
and I duobt you have one

Is there no way to download the update from the internet?

yes ofcourse you can , but how are you going to install it without a cpu?
You can not do it, either grab a first gen ryzen or a x470 motherboard.

Best pc? My budget is around £1000, is it not good for this price point?

You can't be serious, this is in no way an entry gaming rig
for the budget , it sais the price +- 1000 dollars.
and the build looks really promissing, a few flaws that we can easily fix.

Which version of the x470 would you recommend? And is it worth the extra cost, will a cheaper mobo be compatible or is the x470 a must?

Ok thanks, new to this as you can tell, heres my final build.

Keeping the CD drive as I've got quite a few cd/dvds id like to be able to use. Also If I have Widnows10 installed on my latptop upgraded from windows 7 --> windows 8.1 -- Windows 10 is there any way for me to move it across or do I need to buya new copy?

I've had a quick search for free windows 10 and can't find anything. Is it the windows insider program?

Yes, I'm serious.....When he started this thread the question he asked was ''Best Gaming PC'' then he added a budget and changed the name.. the GTX 1060 it is entry level gaming, Doesn't matter if you have a budget of 10k if you put a GTX 1060 in your PC, you have an entry level gaming PC. This is 2018, the Xbox One X can play games at 1440p and 4K for god sake lol :) .. A single GTX 1080 Ti can cost around his entire budget or more.. Just being realistic here, 1080p is not high end gaming anymore(is just the basics)...

1080p -BASIC ENTRY LEVEL GAMING
1440p- MID LEVEL GAMING
2160p-HIGH END GAMING
