The nVidia motherboards arent very good, I would recommend a good intel board like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128358

MUCH better PSU, avoid RAIDMAX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006&Tpk=750TX

This RAM is cheaper and faster: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231209

I would suggest the Xigmatech Dark Knight cooler, its cheaper and is one of the top 5 rated coolers on Frostytech: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029

For the GPU, the 9800 is a bit outdated, for the same money (probably less) you can get an HD4850, but I would recommend spending about $20-30 more to get an HD4870, it will blow that 9800 away. Additionally, the MOBO and PSU I suggested above allow you to crossfire two HD4870s in the future: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102801

+1 on the PSU, RAM, and the cooler. Those are all good suggestions. Another +1 for a different GPU choice, and a definite +1 for the mobo.

Those are great suggestions.

At $1000 you would have to seriously compromise some parts to meet the i7 build.

I agree, for gaming on i7 you really need to have about $1300 USD minimum, $1500 preferably.
