Do you need to buy OS: Yes Windows 10 64 bit
Please note that if you're using an OEM license of Windows, you will need a new one when buying a new motherboard.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: I'm down for whatever but have been using New Egg for reviews, and pricing

Location: City, State/Region, Country - Winston-Salem, NC USA

Parts Preferences: NONE

Overclocking: Maybe, I've planned for it with the higher ram but if it isnt needed the i can step it down.

SLI or Crossfire: Yes , not now unless needed. I have future planning for duel cards later on when 4k gaming become more common

Your Monitor Resolution: not sure will depend on graphics card. don't plan on buying a 4k monitor when a 1080 120hz will cover my needs. i can use that money else where.

Additional Comments: i have two graphics cards on there because one looks to have slightly better specs while the other has 3 hdmi ports. I am not a heavily gamer like a YouTube streamer. i just dont want to build a PC that i could have spent a few more dollars on or in a different place and have not had lag or frame issues.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Because I currently have a laptop and want to build something worth gaming on!!!

If you're spending that kind of money forget about buying a 7700k. There is no upgrade path. Go with an 8700k on a Z370 board. Again for that budget you should get the 1080Ti. It's currently the only card that can game at 4k 60fps on high settings and yes it's faster than the 1080 and will last longer before needing to upgrade. For the monitor I'd go with 1440p 144Hz or 120Hz the 1080Ti can max that out. As far as using newegg for pricing I'd cross check those prices with Amazon. You may get a better deal on 1 or 2 components. You can drop 16GB if RAM for now if you'd like. RAM prices are ridiculous right now and 16GB is more than enough for just gaming and streaming. If you'd like 32GB of RAM I'd get 16GB now and wait for RAM prices to come down to buy the rest.

He doesn't want to SLI right now.

OP, get a 1080ti if you can afford it.. :)

1) Kaby Lake is dead. Either go for i7 8700k and a Z370 motherboard or for Ryzen 7 1700 and X370 motherboard from AMD side (comes with stock cooler which is good enough to overclock it to its 70% potential)
2) 32 GB RAM is not needed for gaming right now. Better to save money and get only 16GB
3) I would go for at 500GB on flash drives these days. Games today are like 80GB each and more. 250GB doesn't cut it anymore

PS For a 1080 120Hz, a 1070ti is enough and can be easily overclocked to reach almost 1080 levels. You might wanna look into that. With a 1080, I would go for a 1440p 120Hz monitor, but this is really a personal choice.

PPS - For 120Hz, go with Intel Coffee lake i7 8700k and not AMD or any other Intel previous gen.

Thank you so much!!!!! couple of more questions though. is this too much for what i am using the computer for? also do you think i need to budget in a liquid cooler?

It is a good futureproof build. Honestly will work well in any other endeavors you might take in.

If you want to do some heavy OC or heavy stress, a liquid cooler is not bad. But you can forego it for now if you do not want too. But if you are going with this build, an AIO is not bad. However, they are not exactly the by word for reliability in my experience.

There's no such thing as overkill when it comes to gaming. It's all about what and how you want to game. Basically if you go with the 8700k and a 1080Ti you should be good to go for quite a while so it'll fit your purpose of somewhat "futureproof" With PC's you truly do get what you pay for.

ok so a couple of questions, i get the reason why you picked those except for the mother board , case, and 256 m2 over a 500?
Also is there anything anyone would change, and why?

The 8700k requires a z370, so I chose a good z370.

The view 71 is a stunning case. But many ppl complain a bit about its build quality, fit and finish. So if you can overlook those issues, go for the view 71.
The bpx is a nvme drive. About three times faster than a sata ssd. If you have a large game library, and if you can wait for 5 more sec, go for the 850 Evo 500gb.

The case and case fan is not rgb but led. The mobo ram and gpu takes care of the synced rgb fusion. The case with the fans would just give you brilliant blue lightning. If you want rgb, go for the infinite mirror 805 model with something like the nzxt aer or corsair LL fans.

The mouse is a favorite of mine. Got haptic feedback for that extra immersion. I also prefer dedicated macro keys, hence the full fledged 780R keyboard.

I also feel that 21:9 would become mainstream in the years to come. With that VA panel, I think the AOC gives the perfect mix of quality and performance. Three years from now, u guys would be saying 16:9 is so 2016 XD.

Also consider that coolermaster air cooler I posted above if you want to reduce the noise in ur case and don't want the hassle of liquid cooler. Keep in mind that the coolermaster cooler also has rgb to contribute to the overall rgb in ur build.

Thank you again for the help. i am liking the recipe very much i was just asking for some clarification so i can learn and understand the choices. went a looked at the monitor today and it looked amazing!!!! The only thing is i was thinking a little different case and that was the Rosewill B2. My thoughts were down the road when i run duel graphics cards then if need be ill have enough room for a liquid setup and more HD space if needed. Also as far as RGB i just want blue.

One of the main reasons I chose the inwin 805 is cuz of the looks and the adequate cooling it provides. It's also new and one of the very few cases to come with a front panel type C usb port.

Honesty though, the 1080ti can power the 3440x1440 easily at 100hz. The res is between 2k and 4k and the refresh rate is 100hz instead of 144hz. So I think it's a good gpu/monitor pairing. So all you have to do is to upgrade to the Volta successor like the 2080ti or 1180ti (dunno which XD)

Another case that I would suggest is the be quiet
Dark base 700.

i really like the 700 look better! Obviously you know way more then i do but i only challenge you on this, with me wanting to play faster pace games like overwatch do you think the 100hz and 4ms will be too long? also what are your thoughts on the tracker ball being on top vs a regular mouse for gaming?

100hz 4ms is absolutely fine for gaming.
No experience with track ball here, sry.
The main reason why I fell in love with the Rival 700 is cuz I was a Playstation 2 gamer. So the haptic feedback from controller to mouse was amazing for me.

So unfortunately something has chewed thru most of the budget so i have two other roads to pick your brains with...
