I am now on the verge of ordering my components and I would just like to check if everything fits/is good enough. Ordering from the UK.

My list:
CPU: AMD FX-8350 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-FX8350-Edition-Processor-4-2GHz/dp/B009O7YUF6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408042019&sr=8-1&keywords=8350)
Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-UD3P (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-970A-UD3P-Motherboard-Gigabit-Ethernet/dp/B00F5R9O46/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408042057&sr=8-1&keywords=ud3p)
Memory: 8gb HyperX Beast (http://www.amazon.co.uk/HyperX-1600-Beast-Desktop-Memory/dp/B00A77202C/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1408042215&sr=8-4&keywords=ram)
GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 270X (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-Dual-X-Radeon-GDDR5-Graphics/dp/B00FL8H49Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1408042307&sr=8-3&keywords=gpu)
HDD: Old 3.5" WD caviar 7200RPM (No link)
Optical Drive: 2 x 5.25 drives
Power Supply: XFX Pro 550w Tier 2 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-ATX-550-Power-Supply/dp/B004RJ8EKI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408042524&sr=8-1&keywords=xfx+550w)
Case: Corsair 300r Windowed (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Carbide-Series-CC-9011017-WW-Windowed/dp/B008B6ONXA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408042561&sr=8-1&keywords=corsair+300r)

Please could you tell me if it fits, and if there are any better components out there at a similar price :)

You won't have any compatibility issues, just make sure that the hard drive isn't so old that it uses the IDE connection and not SATA. Like BlankPursuit said, you should try uk.pcpartpicker.com, you might find the same parts for less elsewhere.

Yeah, http://pcpartpicker.com/user/NewBornNoob/saved/wn8bt6 I use it all the time. But is there anything else that is better for my build? And it is sata, just revision 2.0

All the same stuff, but there is a sale on a R9 280, making this setup $10 cheaper than the one with the R9 270X

The 280 is £220 in the uk, and it is also not available.

Here is your build in the UK. I found an R9 290 from Scan.co.uk that's 149.14 pounds.

First of all if u keep the amd build (it is cheaper, but an intel build would give u more fps), don't take an fx8xxx CPU. It has some not serious overheating isues (no matter about them because u r in england). Also you don't need that power. You would need that power if u had to proccess the π number (~3.14).
Try an fx6xxx or an fx4xxx if u need it for gaming. Also, you should spend the money you'll win from buying a cheaper cpu to the gpu.
Your psu fit in requirement (550w are just the requirement), but you should go for a 600w or a 650w just to be sure that your radeon will be cool.

Note also that if you change your build to intel, you need to change the motherboard and you should also change the gpu, because intel CPUs work greater with NVidia GPUs (like gtx 760 ti directcu [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nvidia-GeForce-DirectCU-GDDR5-Graphics/dp/B00DBPKEOI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1408045631&sr=8-4&keywords=gpu]).

Shut up intel fanboy, the 8xxx series are not even as good as i5s
Also I know about bottlenecking, so I will get a similar rated cpu.
Getting a fx4xxx will be the equivalent to an i3 without hyperthreading.

I am not an Intel fanboy. Intel is beter in fps subjects and amd is better in computing power. Intel CPUs are cooler and that's why they aren't cheap. AMD CPUs are cheaper, but you will probably need a new cooler and not the stock in 8+ core CPUs.

If you want CHEAP gaming PC, the choose AMD, but if you have the money, then spend it on an intel CPU. If you have a multiscreen setup or have a 1440p/2k/4k monitor, u need intel, but for normal Full HD gaming 1080p AMD CPUs fit in your needs

Sorry

Intel CPUs also use less power in my opinion compared to AMD CPUs.
