First PC build Help/advice

CPU- i5-6500
GPU- Gtx 960 4Gb
RAM- 8Gb ddr4 2133Mhz

Any suggestions on improvement or cheaper but similar performance parts? About at the limit of my budget. Also any idea on the performance this setup will have on (if it runs it) A)Skyrim w/mods B) Doom (2016) C) Shadow of mordor

Ask for any info you need
Thanks :)

Solution
It's a nice build from what you've listed. Personally, I haven't quite caught onto the DDR4 hype so I (PERSONALLY) would swap the CPU and ram out for DDR# to save some money which you could put into the GPU maybe. That's me though.

For the rest of the build (Unless you already have the rest), find some nice 500-600W PSU and 120GB SSD and some 1TB HDD or so and you'll be sorted :)

If you're not sure about how to put something together, youtube it. There're LOTS of tutorials online about how to build the PC and I recommend you watch one before you start (they're all very similar since building the PC isn't hard)

Enjoy your PC and feel free to ask if you're not sure :)

Edit: Yes. It will play the games you listed fine. Ultra for Skyrim and medium/high for the other 2 :)

I disagree. For one thing, the price of DDR4 RAM (in the US anyways) is pretty much the same price as DDR3. For another, why go with an older generation of hardware? I don't think you're going to find much savings in going back a generation.

I personally think that Intel is a bit expensive and my Fx-6300/GTX 960 build is much more cost effective that running an i5/GTX 960. Yeah I know I'm on the red team... Don't shoot me down dang it!

I'd have to get an A10 if I was to go for AMD because unfortunately I'm building over time and the GPU is the last thing to go in and the FX doesn't have graphics (hoping the 1080 will drop some prices)

Yeah, the A10 is another good choice. I'm hoping to see the 970's price drop... Maybe run that with a fx-8350!

The motherboard I have atm is a DDR4 one, figured it would be more futureproof than a DDR3

this build very much depends on the use of this pc if its light 1080p gaming at normal settings get a 960 and a fx 6300 with 8(or 16)gb ddr3 ram if you want better settings or on skyrim graphic mods get the system listed above with 16gb ram and a 970 because it is 80$ more than a 960 it is 60% faster and at 1080p will max almost any game
and for a gpu and building overtime just go to a local goodwill if you have one and you can get a 9800gtx for 15$
and in gaming a amd A10 is a bad idea

ddr4 is good for future like you said as it allows higher memory capacities and higher clock speeds along with more hardware sopport

I'm in the UK we don't have those shops here :/

do you have some kind of 2nd hand pc shop you can get cheap temporary gpus there

Probably if I look around but it's 50/50 if it'll work or not

What do you think to the RX420 that's just been announced at £160/$200?

Possible. Im in NZ and for PC hardware is more expensive cause NZ... -_-
If its the same price, May as well get the ddr4

I think wait for the 1060 if you're looking at that price range. Honestly, the benches they showed were somewhat underwhelming IMO. Ashes of the singularity is a heavily AMD bias game. I think you'll find the actual benchmarks show it to have 970 performance rather than the 980 performance they implied on the show. The 1060 is likely to have ~980 performance if the step down from 1080 to 1070 is repeated. The 1060 or 1060ti should come in at about the same price range. This is mostly speculation but I feel like im not far off.

Solution

If you have a DDR4 Mobo already then go for DDR4 :) easier and cheaper if you dont have to buy another mobo and faster :)

i dont think a system of that kind really needs 16Gb but if you find it at a very similar price it might be good to have. Dont be afraid to save money and stick with 8GB. You can always upgrade later :)

I don't have it its the one I'm probably gonna get. MSI Z170 A-pro I believe. Problem is it connecting via HDMI and want a full ATX board. I'd accept smaller though especially if you know any good 1151 sockets in black/blue under £100. (Case is black and blue)

Yeah I've already dropped it to 8 to save £20

I am waiting until September to buy the GPU (when I go back to uni) so I'll hopefully see price drops and plenty of benchmarks for the 480 amd 1060, just doing research now while I have a month off study.

I just went with that same board last week when it was on sale at newegg for $80. :) I paired it with an i5 6500 so I can't give you any feedback on overclocking with it, but I didn't have any problems at all with the board.

Exact same processor I'm most likely to go for!
