First PC Build! Help, I'm clueless!

I know that its supposed to be better to build your own gaming rig so I saved up about $1500 and I'm ready to order parts. I just don't know if I've picked out a decent setup! You never need a fan controller, only if you want absolute control of your fans and even then you'll only use it like 2 times a month. Also, you don't need to buy thermal paste, it's already applied to the heatsink. Other than that build looks good to me, although i would prefer an Asus motherboard over an MSI one their latest mobo's are supposed to be fine.

changed the psu to a lower watt cuz you didnt need a 750 for a single gpu, changed the mobo to an asus

Build looks good. An alternate fork in the setup would be swapping the CPU to an i7-4770k and the video card to a GTX 770 if you're going to do heavy rendering and/or CPU-intensive games like Crysis 3, Battlefield 4, and Total War: Rome II.

The games you mentioned pretty much work great on any CPU , it would be a different case in the future.
Also what are you recommending him ? 770 instead of a 780 , dont ever say that , do you even know how much of a boost that will give him in his games ? dont tell him to upgrade to a better CPU. (Leave rendering aside for now.)
