Hi all,
a few days ago, I made a post, asking for some help, which I recieved, but then decided to modify a lot, so I started a new thread. I am building a gaming PC for the first time, and am choosing parts.

I am on a budget of £750. I would be playing games like Battlefield 3, Skyrim [with a LOT of mods, such as the SMIM and 4K Textures- willing to go down to 2K], Battlefield 4, Borderlands 2, Far Cry 3, Crysis 3 and so on.

I want to be able to run them COMFORTABLY. Not at 25fps, but looking at above 40 for each on, on as close to maximum settings as possible [except Crysis, that would be ridiculous] as I plan to record some gameplay.

So, here are my parts:

Windows 8.1 64-bit
Kingston 1600MHz DDR3 Non ECC CL9 8GB Kit (2x 4GB) HyperX BLU XMP DIMM
WD Caviar Blue 1TB SATAIII 6GB/s 32MB Cache 3.5 Inch Internal Hard Drive - OEM
XFX ATX 550 Power Supply - P1550SXXB9
LiteOn IHAS124-04 24x SATA Half Height Internal DVDRW Drive
AMD (Piledriver) FX-4350 4.20GHz AM3 Quadcore
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 AMD Socket AM3+
XFX Radeon HD 7870 2GB GDDR5
Acer S220HQLBrbd 21.5" Full HD LED Monitor
Fractal Design Core 1000 Series Micro ATX Case

What do you think?

Could someone find any benchmarks?
I couldn't, but I am probably looking for the wrong thing.

Again, thank you so much for your help, and Merry Christmas,

Dovahkitty :)

You will probably need a better CPU & GPU than what you have listed to get those kind of Frame rates. Crysis 3 is tough on just about any light to moderate build, not sure about the rest of the games, but I wouldn't expect much. There are many articles on the net that will give a rough idea of how different GPUs perform in different games (in tems of FPS you can expect).

Quad-core 4.2GHz not enough? And the Graphics Card doesn't seem bad? What would you recommend- I am on a budget, don't forget.

I understand being on a budget and wanting good results, but sometimes what we want and what we can afford are entirely two different things.

Here are a couple of pages concerning Battlefield 4 GPU framerates:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/battlefield-4-graphics-card-performance,3634-7.html

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/battlefield-4-graphics-card-performance,3634-8.html

here are a couple comparing GPU performance in Crysis 3:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crysis-3-performance-benchmark-gaming,3451-5.html

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crysis-3-performance-benchmark-gaming,3451-6.html

all of the GPUs are better than a GT 640 and look at their framerates

and look at this for cpu performance in Crysis 3:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crysis-3-performance-benchmark-gaming,3451-8.html

when you look at those framrates for various CPUs, remember the numbers being shown are for that CPU using a GTX 680

hope this helps

Changed it to an XFX Radeon HD 7870 :) What would you suggest in ways of CPU?

Hi all,
I made some minor tweaks to the system- which I will be buying at the end of the year-

Kingston XMP Beast Series 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 CL9 DIMM

Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 OC Edition 3GB VRAM

Should this be fine with the system?
Yes, I know this went above my previous budget- but it has now been raised to £1000. :)
