Hi, So i decided it was time to build my own PC for gaming, general use and School work. I am in high school [Year 9 (I am 14)] so i don't have a huge budget. please give some advice on parts and if they are god or not good or worth the price ect, i took my time selecting the parts and didn't just pick the cheapest ones. The keyboard, case, Motherboard and PSU I am defiantly keeping on the list purely because I have heard good thing about them so far. My budget is £720 no higher my parents will pay to wards prehipials e.g Keyboard, Mouse ect, ill look into any suggestions of Components from you.

Hoping to build in the school holidays [3 week estimate]

Here is my part list >> http://

All help will be appreciated. I have never build a PC so tips will be nice. 😀

Alright using that case got the following put together (the 265 was 6 more the 260 and gives almost an extra 10 FPS)

PCPartPicker part list: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/NQVNgs
Price breakdown by merchant: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/NQVNgs/by_merchant/

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor (£70.20 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard (£57.12 @ Amazon UK)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£56.98 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£38.70 @ Aria PC)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R7 265 2GB Video Card (£89.99 @ Amazon UK)
Case: Corsair Graphite...
Everything looks alright but I would transfer some of your budget from your monitor to your GPU, do not know what games you are playing but the r7 240 is really only good for 720p gaming. So it would have a hard time driving your monitor

Would suggest changing to something like this instead;

Hum so will the MSI R7 260X 2GD5 OC run in 1180p? and will it run on the benq monitor?

so the R7260X is a good card for 1080p??
really i would like to go lower price and i like the benq my frend has it and it seems decent for the price
ill just get rid of the dongle my dad can put an ethernet cable to the pc its no biggie
what else can i swap to make it cheeper

The 260x is good for most games right now in the medium to high range of graphics

The Benq is 40 more so trying to save that much,

Ok while the main areas you can save cash is your case (well reviewed one below for 55 less)

The optical drive can be cut if you don't need it but its always handy to have so I would keep it, maybe your mouse/keyboard but probably not nearly as much there

One thing to look into is an SSD as boot drive, probably the single best upgrade you can make (maybe as a future one)

yes i can get a different case i just wanted one with a decent window also in future i will buy an SSD and a water cooler for the CPU i have a list of cases so ill go through them again.

Hello again um so i was looking through my list and the cases on pc part picker and i dident really find one what compared to the 450D so i decided to get the 230T instead i know it dosent have a window but i will put up with it or buy a spare side panel for it and get my dad to buy a clear plastic sheet and cut a square in the side panel and put the plastic in and use that i dont know ill probly get the 450D when i decide to upgrade the system.

Solution

But the MSI has a higher clock speed than the saphire and i carnt find the R7 265 on the AMD site
MSI card http://

Updated part list http://

oh i see more cores = more rendering capabilities its sort of a mix of the R7 260X and the R9 270
ill add it to the list

Ok its nice to hear that i have done something right for once haha =]
The PSU um i got that because its cheep and i carnt afford a fully modular one which is what i wanted so i got that one instead. Over clocking i want to overclock in the future and mignt get a CPU watercooler in the future, the aftermarket CPU cooler i will look into it. OCing is something i would like to do but as you say i will need a better Power supply and CPU cooler.
Oh also what do think of the mouse, keyboard, monitor and mobo are they good or bad as i said earlier my friend has the benq monitor and i like the keyboard alot the mouse i just thaught it liiked good and cumfterble the Motherboard i thaught it was good for price and connectivity

Haha no problem, ok well if you are thinking about overclocking then I would suggest putting a little more money into the PSU now that way you don't have to do a replacement, if you want to go that route this PSU is a tier 2A ranked unit and ridiculously cheap on amazon right now, also 80+ gold for efficiency so will save a bit on your power bill, also semi modular

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/zalman-power-supply-zm550xg

i was looking at that PSU but i did not know what cables came with it but now i looked on CCL i now know but half of the connections i dont know what they are for i know what the SATA, Molex and cpu connectors are for but i dont understand the whole 6pin 4pin 2pin malarky is all about. um yes i did look at it but dident know what came with it now i know what does and its 80+ gold so its better than the corsair for that ill replace the corsair one.

Updated Part list http://

Haha thats alright once you get it you will understand what they mean, but yes a great unit for that price point
1 x 4+4 pin Main Power -> this is an extra power connector for your CPU, some motherboards only need 4 pins others need 8 so this is a two piece that can fit both (the Mobo you have needs 8-pins)
4 x 6+2 pin PCI Express connectors -> essientally only used for GPU's now a days, you will either need a 6 or 8 pin connector for the GPU and these fit both, (the GPU you have will only need 1 6-pin, a 290x for example uses 2 8-pins to provide its power)

Oh i see now thanks it makes more sense now. um so the WiFi USB will that be OK or shall i go for a PCI/PCIe one either don't bother me if its useless my dad can run an Ethernet cable to my PC under the floor
Examples
WiFi USB http://
PCIe Card http://

If you want wifi I would say the PCIe card is the better route, cheaper and gives you more options for antenna arrangement to try and get the best signal, but a wired connection is always a good idea since its faster and more reliable IMO.
Also since you will need to download drivers no matter what when you first do the build its very handy to be able to plug in the mobo and download them (normally the onboard ethernet will run slowly until it gets its drivers up to date as well but still runs, dont know how well the wifi card will be without its drivers)

Thanks for the help SU11YBEAR it has helped me allot and i hope the build goes well ill just have to get the parts and tools together. When i post the complete build ill mention you and Linus tech tips in the description since you helped and linus helped build my knowledge of PCs and components. Again thanks for the help and knowledge you have given. Ill PM you When i have posted the build on PC PartPicker it will be in the school holidays in 3 weeks time.
BTW i like the picture of Frys dog seymour. :)

Yes it is. The R7 260x would definitely play all the games you want on a 1080p monitor.

I have just posted on a new thread about my graphics card and monitor here is a link if you are interested
