I'm building my first machine and I need to reduce the price. Any advice on where I should cut down? Here is my part list: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/zPTkrH.
I want to be able to play Skyrim maxed out with an ENB and newer games such as The Witcher and Fallout 4 with acceptable fps on High. Basically a little future proofed. I'm not sure if I should keep the I7 or downgrade to an I5 and save some money. Would it be better to wait for gen 5? Is the GPU overkill? As for OS and large storage I can get those easily elsewhere. I might go to a 60GB SSD if I have to. My ideal budget for the build is $1500 AUD (about $1200 USD). I might set a budget of $1000 AUD for a build without a gpu and save for a high end card separately, would that be better? Is a 144Hz monitor worth the massive cost? The budget includes CPU, RAM, SSD, CPU fan, case, PSU, GPU, disk drive, and 144Hz monitor.
Thanks.

the i5 is good enough, you wont need more for gaming, keep the 970 since it will help for new games. changes the ram to better faster one.

I am not sure if you will be overclocking, and to be honest it wont be needed but i did add a Z97 mobo k series cpu and a cooler just in case.

as for the 144Hz monitoer, I dont think its worth it, costs double what a normal 24" monitor would cost.

for non over clocking build

Solution

Thanks but I checked newegg and it's still $460 AUD there. Again I'm in Australia. The USD price is $342 but everything costs about 25% more in AUD.

Thanks for the tips. This looks like the build I will go with unless others advise otherwise.

great, but you can change the case to your liking, find something that will fit the budget and appeals to you.
