Just signed up for the forums because Im looking to build my first computer. I essentially want it to function as a desktop/htpc with my 40" sony bravia as the monitor. I've done some research and have come up with the following parts:

Case/Power/Cooling - Apevia X-Master
Motherboard - MSI H76MA-E35 Micro ATX
Processor - i7 2600 3.4GHz quad core
RAM - Crucial 8Gb(2x4) DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz
Hard Drive - Seagate 1TB 7200RPM 6.0GB/s
Optical Drive - Samsung Blu-Ray Drive (SH-B123L/RSPB)
Graphics Card - Radeon HD 6870

That total comes to just under $1000 when I order from Newegg.

Just wondering if I am getting everything, could I do better for the same price or cheaper, and is Newegg a good site to deal with.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thomas

I think others will agree with me when I say a i7-2600 is overkill for what you want to do. At the very most of top performance a i5-2500 is better for your needs - at the very most. Also, I'm assuming you do not intend to overclock as you are not getting the "k" version? Also, you need a DVD burner, blu ray drives do that job rather poorly so people usually get both for their respective purposes. Otherwise I think you have a decent build but I would say if you still want an high end intel CPU go for the i5-2500 and invest the extra $100 or so you save into a better motherboard.

I'm not sure what you're budget is and couldn't find your motherboard on newegg, but I recommend a Z68 motherboard as well as an ATX (just based on the sole fact that usually ATX boards have more than micro atx as well as all the higher end boards being ATX since I can't find your motherboard and am making assumptions because of this) Besides, investing in a better motherboard in my opinion is better than investing in a CPU that is overkill. Otherwise, as I said you've got a decent build together!
