First Pc Build Troubleshooting Help

so i have just built a pc a couples weeks ago, its my first build so im not 100% sure i did everything right... the specs are
Processor - intel core i5-6600k cpu @ 3.50ghz
Ram - 32gb
windows 10 operating system
graphics card- Nvidia Ge Force GTX 960

but the pc is having trouble playing games......even golf with friends on single player it just drops frames. it will play at 15fps and i dont know why. is my pc bottlenecking or do i have to upgrade something please help. I did a benchmark test and it said my cpu got a 18 out of 100 and could barley open a email. is something wrong there?

Check your CPU temperatures and the frequency the CPU is running at. Sounds as if you're thermal throttling. Check while stress testing or gaming. Did you do a clean install of Windows? Is you're Power Plan set to "High Performance?"
