This is the first time I've built a computer, I'm getting pretty frustrated.

Specs:
Asus Rog Maximus XI Hero
I7 9700k
2080 TI
First tried G.Skill f42666c19d32gis (found out wasn't on compatibility list)
Just got corsair vengeance cmk32gx4m2b3200c16

I've tried updating bios,
I've tried a single ram chip in every slot, I've tried reseating CPU, I've tried other things too, but I forget everything specifically.

I always get Q-code 42, which isn't listed in the mobo q-code table, with the dram light yellow.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Edit: SOLVED, I forgot to mention I also had a firewire card, which is what ended up being the problem, oddly enough. Siig NN-FW0012-S1 Dp firewire 800 pcie

I removed that and it starts up just fine. Still need to find a solution for working firewire though.

Should be plug and play. RAM also shouldn’t matter in an Intel system. If you’re doing everything right then the motherboard needs to be RMA.
