Question First PCI-e lane damaged

Hey guys, I did an oopsie 2 days back. When I tried to take out my GPU (gtx 1070) from my MB (MSI X99a SLI Plus) I ripped out the plastic PCI-express lane. I was too excited to plug in my new M.2 SSD. Now all the pins are standing there naked without protection. Like this:

After some research I am convinced that I am not able to fix this slot. I just made sure that these pins are not touching each other. So I was trying to plug the GPU in the second PCI express lane. Everything looks and sounds fine. Unfortunately I only get a black screen. Not even the BIOS or boot screen is visible.

Is the MB toast? Is the MB still trying to send signals through the first lane? If so, is there any way of changing it to the second lane without access to the BIOS?

Anyway, would love to get some advice here! Have a great one!

Thanks for your response! Any way to rule it out that something got damaged? Of course this would be my last option to replace the board.
