First post! Question on CPU upgrade

Thanks for taking the time to look at my first post here. My question is this. I have an old E machine ET1161-07 with a MCP61PM-GM rev2.2 mobo. The CPU died and I want to replace it with an upgrade. I know that it is a AM2 socket and the max wattage for the replacement CPU should be under 89 watts. I am thinking about purchasing an AMD Phenom x4 9150e which is a AM2+ socket and runs at 65 watts. Before I make the purchase I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this upgrade or can verify that this CPU/MOBO combo is compatible. Thanks for your input

And you are sure, that it is the cpu that died, because that very rarely happens?

Yea, cooling fan died and swapped out with another processor and bingo, worked fine. So instead of replacing with exact processor I wanted to upgrade if I have to buy one anyway. Any suggestions on the best processor to purchase? And again, thanks!

That might be the best you can get for the mobo, but don't expect to much. The old chipset will limit the performance.

Yup. It has a DDR2/DDR3 memory controller, and will move forward into an AM3+ chipset motherboard.
