First Successful Overclock !

hey all, i just wanted to say that i successfully overclocked my core2. This is my first good overclock, my 939 x2 4200 always crashed.

I have the stock E4300 1.8 running @ 2.4 Gigahertz. All i did was raise FSB and lock the pci-express bus to 100mhz

I ran TAT for 10 minutes and the highest temp either processor got was 66 degrees

congrats, I too had problems OC'ing my AM2 3800+ any higher than 2.2 from 2.0, but my 4300 goes to 3.15 nicely

You want to get a better cooler, 66 is pretty high but other than that good job it feels nice to stick it to the man a little and get more performance than you paid for.

ya i was pretty happy, lol. I read that 70 degrees was considered warm, and 65 to 70 should be ok, as long as i dont take it higher.

I also scored 9200 in 3dmark 06. All in all im' a happy camper. Glad to see u got a good overclock too karlb

my only problem was that it was 66 after only 10 min. (are you only going to play a game for 10 min?) Run Orthos and see what your temps are, I've never used a program that stresses a system the way that it does. It will give you a good idea of where you stand.

actually tat stresses the cpu way more than orthos does, besides i can assure you NO videogame will stress your cpu to a 100%, besides that 66c is not that bad, since the e4300 have a tjunction of 100c (when they startt throttling). try to take it up to 3.0ghz 😛, and see if the temps go up?, dont even raise the vcore, u shouldnt have 2 ;p

@op and btw do u have a 8800gtx? or wat video card do u have?

well bro i'd say give it a try, and if u dont see the temps going up... then why not do it you kno what im sayin?

Congratulations on the free CPU Cycles! Hopefully I'll be just like you in a couple weeks, but I've got a quick question for you: How do you like that P5K? Find any issues yet? I've been set on another board for my build, but I hear (see) quite a few people loving that board. I'm not usually one for early adaptation, but it's starting to sound like a good idea. Your thoughts?

i guess i agree, but come one how long do u think he plans on keeping a e4300... more than 3-5 years?

the board is pretty nice, although if you get a gts or higher you will probably need a extra long ide cable, as mine that came witth the mobo was BARELY long enough

I like the motherboard because it supports the next gen chipsets (45nm) so i will be able to upgrade in the future. It's also got quite a few overclocking options. It was very easy to overclock.

As a matter of fact, i overclocked mine without even updating the bios. I'm not even sure if i'm using the latest bios or not =P. But it's working so that's all that matters for now.

The negative side, is that i don't think it supports ddr3. You may want to double check, but i'm pretty sure it doesn't. However this wasn't a huge concern for me.

One more thing, i don't think it supports pci express 2.0. Which is from what i understand supposed to allow more power to the video card. I'm hoping that they will be backwards compatible for at least a 1 1/2 years, but we'll see. Those are the only two negative things i can think of.

Hey man those are pretty good clocks. Glad to see some people are liking that p5k. I have the p965 version, the infamous p5b deluxe lol and have my e6300 at 3.6 stable, had to go 1:1 with the ram but i have heard it is excellent for performance since it uses FSB to access memory. I would be interested to see how far you can actually push that e4300 once you get a good cooler. If i were you i would expect no less than 3.4GHz depending on the ram you have. 😀 Congratulations and welcome to the club. 2.4 beats 1.8 anyday. If the bug gets you, and its likely, the stock heatsink should do fine up to 2.7 to 3.0 in a pinch. There are a lot of good aftermarket HSF's out there that don't cost an arm and leg and would be a very good investment. Oh, and while 3.4 and above are quite doable, 3.2 with good cooling is quite tolerable too!
