Typing on phone. With Tom's help I built a system in 2013. Motherboard is ASUS M5A97 LE R 2.0.
Last night my Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse stopped working. Checked everything obvious. Forced to do hard boot. Startup wants a 'Enter' click to force a System Restore. No working keyboard - so can't repair just yet. Will buy a wired one today but I worry it is more related to USB/ Motherboard. Only because one port went out already. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Thanks Pete

I have tried the Logitech rf receiver in probably all the USB ports. Neither the mouse not keyboard respond. All have full batteries. The fact that the hard boot is seeking to do a system restore would make me think it is software related. I will still buy a wired keyboard to see if it will receive my Ok to do the restore but suspect it won't help. The system has worked well for me for 3.5 years. But their were two issues. First, the bootup BIOS on the Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 never provided the boot option to boot from USB only Hard Drive and DVD drive. Secondly about a year ago one of my USB ports stopped working.

Sorry guys been busy moving from place to place. As it turned out I didn't have to buy a wired keyboard. I found another logitech USB Transceiver and kept plugging it into ports until both my keyboard and mouse worked. But I found the problem was that my HD got corrupted somehow - Windows couldn't repair itself nor did the 'restore' from old version. The restore menu listed a couple of image copies but when I would try to select them as candidates it would respond by saying they weren't 'reserved' or 'in reserved space' something like that. So I somehow got to the Command Prompt and used my old DOS "dir' commands only to find there was nothing on the C drive. Primary drive was now the X drive??? Wacked.
Ok so.... I was leaving Florida going to Pittsburgh. (That is where I am typing from). I set up my system here even though my final destination is NY. I had an old copy of Windows 7 Home here and figured I would at least try to reload that and see it returned my system to life. I was able to Windows but it is getting hung on two drivers that aren't installed:

The Ethernet Controller and the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller.

Ok so here is my new question (sorry for the long diatribe). I am hoping when I arrive in NY and have access to all my original hardware DVDs from my initial build in 2013 - like the Asus motherboard drivers disk and my daily working version of Windows 7 Professional DVD. My assumption is the initial USB glitchiness and then the irreparability of the Hard Drive will be cleared up by a fresh install?

Does it make sense that not having the dedicated ASUS motherboard drivers DVD is what is preventing me from getting online with this temporary version of Windows 7 Home? I can't remember the order.... when I get to NY and want to reinstall my Windows 7 Professional - do I boot first with the ASUS motherboard driver disks and then re-install Windows 7 Pro? Should that refresh my system for the Lan Nework Adapter and fix my USB issues?
Thanks for reading all that crap...

Peter
