First System Build

I wanted to post on here to get opinions and make sure everythings compatible. Also I wanted to make sure I'm not forgetting anything. I havn't decided on any cd/dvd rom drives or floppy drives yet so I'm gonna leave those components out. Also I'm in the middle of looking for a replacement PSU since the one I bought with the case is obsolete.

Mid-Tower ATX
2 front USB and Audio

Was wanting to use the built in audio on the motherboard instead of buying a Sound Card.

O.S.:
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 64-bit for System Builders.

Yes everything is compatible but it's not all that powerful of a build... not sure what you're using it for but if you give us your budget it might be possible to build something a little more powerful. As for the optical drive it's not really that important I usually just a buy a cheap drive from Lite-On with good reviews. Floppy drive... not needed. Finally, I would recommend buying a motherboard from a different manufacturer if possible e.g. Gigabyte, Asus, DFI, MSI, etc. Hope this helps.

My budgets around $500-700. I almost forgot I still gotta decide on a network card. Most likely its got to be wireless. I'm wanting to build the system for gaming and internet surfing mainly.

In that case I would recommend a build based around and AMD Phenom II 550... Check it out and let me know if you want me to pick out some more parts for you. It makes and amazing gaming PC when coupled with the right graphics card.

I agree with jbakerlent. With that budget, you can build a much more powerful computer if you choose AMD.

I've checked out the specs on an amd phenom II x2 550. But I'm having troubles finding a good motherboard/video card combo I'm happy with. Anybody with experience with the phenom II x2 550, I'd like to ask for an opinion on both the mobo and video. This is my first system build so I would like all the components to be relatively easy to install. Looking up motherboards I found a pretty good combo cpu/mobo deal on newegg.com. The CPUs a Phenom II x3 720.

Would you recommend the Combo over the dual-core processor and an average mobo?
