Hey. I believe there's been recently 1200$ build topic.
edit: here's the topic you can pry on :) http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/369862-13-under-1000

But anyways here's link to 1000$ build
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/build-a-pc-overclock-benchmark,review-32507.html
To see specs ang games benchmarks click the link
But that' just for starters.
I personally would choose win7 as it seems more stable and win8 has few faults, but here's link on comparison between two.

Here is the the build you need. It jus don't gets better than this.

You've got a $1200 budget. Do not go cheap on the case or the power supply. That has become a really disturbing trend around here. You don't want to trust your new components to a sub par case. If you've got a $1200 budget you should be prepared to overclock.

Try this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($31.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($127.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($37.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($88.98 @ Newegg)
Storage: OCZ Vertex 4 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($119.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 3GB Video Card ($444.98 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case ($109.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 750W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($73.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $1255.86
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

You didn't see the part where I said "if you're paying that kind of money you should be prepared to overclock." :ange:

i suggested a z77 board just in case if you want to change the cpu in the future to overclocked one , since the h77 boards are prices very near to the z77.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I dont really mind going $50-$100 over the budget if it's worth getting K series cpu for my gaming..

How would you rate the noise level from the cpu with the above recommended case and graphics card? It would be nice if it's decently silent.

And I'll mostly go for a 128GB SSD, and add on more storage later.

Wait - so you're saying my build is bogus because I include a Z77 motherboard yet you include one as well? :heink:

I'd personally say it is but if you're going to put money into something I'd rather have it be the GPU.

The Phantom 410 is one of the best case choices you can buy right now - should be fairly silent for the most part.

And I'll mostly go for a 128GB SSD, and add on more storage later.

I'd do the opposite - get mass storage now, add the SSD later. SSDs are nice to have but I compare it to getting the navigation system on a car - sure it gets you from point A to point B quicker but it's also expensive and you can leave it off and add one later and it'd still serve the same purpose. 128GB will fill up very quickly if this is a gaming system.

no no g-unit i was just saying that you included a overclock-able cpu and he don't want to overclock and you didn't include OS. and the z77 board its just a look into the future and he can change it to h77 one if he will never overclock even in the future.

My first build listed has the same plus bronze PSU from reliable manufacturer and nzxt410 and as OP stated overlocking is not needed, you just complicating everything for him.
