Can anyone tell me if this build will be compatible? Would be really thankful

Your processor is a Socket FM2, your mother board is a Socket AM3+. It will not fit.

Yeah you have listed SODIMM memory, that is usually used in notebooks, laptops etc. You are looking for DIMM slots, here is a list of supported memory for the mother board: http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_ga-78lmt-usb3.pdf

I have changed my RAM to this G.SKILL Ripjaws 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9 DIMM Memory
and got a FM2 Motherboard this one Gigabyte GA-F2A55M-HD2 Socket FM2 AMD A55 Chipset
This is mainly for school and light gaming

What OS do you plan on running? Ram is pretty cheap so if you have a 64 bit OS I would recommend 8 gigs personally.

Im going to be using Windows 7 64bit that I bought on student discount. I was considering getting another 4GB stick but I was worried it wouldn't make that much of a difference

8 gigs is usually the recommended amount now adays for a 64 bit operating system due to the price of ram.
