I'm going to be building this primarily for use with 3D modelling/animation (Maya) and graphics/editing (C4D & CC2015).

The other requirement is that it needs to handle and render 4k footage over the next few years without too much in terms of upgrading.

Here's my pcpartpicker list:

CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2690 V3 2.6GHz 12-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

Motherboard: ASRock X99 Extreme4 ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
will probably double up to 64GB down the line

Storage: Samsung 850 Pro Series 512GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card

Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 1000W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 OEM (64-bit)

Wireless Network Adapter: Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I 802.11a/b/g/n/ac PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

Monitor: Dell P2715Q 60Hz 27.0" Monitor

Is there anything that could be improved or made more efficient for the cost? The budget is around £3,500 but if I could save some money that would be awesome.

The 12 cores of the Xeon will be much better for "3D modelling/animation (Maya) and graphics/editing (C4D & CC2015)."

Forget water cooling. too expensive and can be quite noisy when the CPU is heavily loaded.

Be sure that the RAM is a matched set of 4 pcs. Do not buy individual DIMMS or 2 sets of 2 pcs.

Your build looks excellent.

Cheers Yogi, it's good to know it's on the right track and I'll be sure to keep the RAM thing in mind!
