I'm planning to to order my parts within four weeks or July 14th so I can start building in August. Is there anything I should change before I finalize everything? My budget is $1400. This build will be used for gaming only. I'm in Southern California near Micro Center, Fry's Electronics, Best Buy, Staples, and more other electronic stores. Thanks!

PARTS LIST: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Bs7yqs

  • CPU: Heard a lot of good things about the 4670K so I decided to go with it. Going to pick one up at Micro Center.

  • CPU Cooler: Since I'm overclocking I will be needing a cooler. I was thinking about the 212 EVO but I'm looking for something a tad stronger. I'm willing to spend $70 on a cooler.

  • Motherboard: I've been told ASrock isn't the greatest motherboard manufacturer. Is this true? What is a better alternative? I know Micro Center has some has a 4670K and MSi Z97-Gaming 5 1150ATX deal but I'm not sure if it really is a deal.

  • Memory: I could go with A-Data or Team Vulcan but I wanted something nice looking. It's a bit more expensive but I'm fine with that.

  • Storage: Should I go with the PNY XLR8 120GB or stay with Crucial? I heard that PNY had some controversy over their SSDs but I'm not sure if the XLR8 series had to do with it. Don't know which HDD is better so I just went with Western Digital since I'm a tad more familiar with them than Seagate.

  • GPU: The GPU is where I'm most concerned. I don't know much about them so I was a bit hesitant go with a PowerColor GPU. I decided to go with them since they are probably the cheapest and best cooling R9 290. The R9 2xx is known for being hot, or at least what I've been reading, so I wanted the best dissipation solution at the cheapest price. Other than cooling, I'm not sure how their RMA, warranties, customer support, and reliability goes. I was hoping for some in-depth input on PowerColor.

  • Case: Really love the NZXT H440's design. Do you think it's risky to go with an R9 290 and an H440? The case has a trade-off of cooling performance for silence so since the R9 290 runs really hot I might not go with this case.

  • PSU: I heard EVGA doesn't make the best PSUs. Is this true? I just went with them because of their price for a fully-modular, 80+ Gold power supply.

  • OS: Going to get the OS at my college.

  • Monitor: Love this monitor for its slim bezel and price. Was hoping to go up to 24" but I couldn't find any inexpensive ones. Hoping someone could find me a cheap 24" for around $140.

What do you guys think?

Solution
H97 won't allow you to overclock properly, use Z87 or 4690k (will be released on Wednesday next week and has much more overclocking potential) and Z97, 4670k doesn't need Z97 so you should use Z87, 4690k does need Z97 so if you're going with the 4690k get a Z97 board and if you're going with the 4670k get a Z87 board.

Also, this 8GB is really expensive, get this instead. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f312800cl9d8gbrl

I am thinking NO MSI CRAP! :pt1cable: ASUS for the motherboard. As for monitors. My HP 23BW was somewhere around $170. Watch Newegg, look for good daily deals and shockers. Best PSU manufacturer is Seasonic, XFX next in line as an OEM. The H440 is an excellent case, very quiet. It gives anyone who might want to cram 2 360mm radiators into their case later a cheap platform to do so with. I LOVE Seagate stuff, but I also use a WD, its pretty good too. As for the SSD, stay Crucial, or better yet, Samsung. Corsair makes good looking, cool RAM. In your case, for OC work you will need a better cooler than the 212 EVO. Look into a Noctua.
