Hello everyone,

I am new to this community and have a couple of questions regarding a new computer I just built. It was my first time ordering parts separately and building a computer. Here are my specs:

CPU--Intel I7 6700K 4.0 ghz
Power Supply--850 W Thermaltake Smart M
Case--Cooler Master Storm Trooper Stryker
CPU Cooler- Corsair H100I-GTX
MotherBoard--Asus Z170-Premium
RAM--DDR4-3200 G.Skill Ripjaws V 1.35 V CL 16-18-18-38 4 X 16 GB so 64 GB total.
GPU--2X EVGA gforce 980-TI SC edition 6GB DDR5
Monitor-Dont have yet still need.
Samsung SSD 850 pro

I ordered all of these parts from NewEgg and Amazon. I am thinking about sending one of the video cards back, and 32 gb of the ram back because I think it was overkill. Also, I wish I would of got a Haswell to have more than 4 cores. I will use this computer for Gaming, a few VM's, and running a youtube channel so a little bit of video editing stuff.

I am asking the community for their opinion on what monitor to buy, and if I should send back 1 graphics card and 32 gig of ram. Also if I should maybe send back the motherboard and processor and get a has well and X99 chipset instead. Money isn't too much of an issue, I like to have the best but I don't want to be wasteful either. Also I only have 1 SSD so i should prob get another to boot windows 8.1 only from 1 right? What about these U2 options for SSD. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

The only thing i recommend sending back is the ram. Everything else is worth it. X99 is overkill for gaming, the 6700k alone is almost a bit overkill for games. 2x 980ti will give you the absolute best performance and will for a while.
16gb is enough for ram.
For the monitor a 4k might be the best option, since your machine will run every game in 4k.

I did the same thing. After a bit of research I took back the skylake build and picked up an x99/5820k. With a decent OC it has the same single thread performance and mutlithreaded it blows it out of the water.

Acer x34 monitor
Ditch the 32GB ram and the extra 980ti. You wont need it and if or when you do you will want pascal (or the latest gen) anyway.

It's going to take some time but DX12 is the future.

Thanks for your advice guys. I just realized the cooler master storm trooper stryker case can't hold a lot of the 2011 motherboards so I would have to send the case back as well if I started over.

I will send the ram back, and debating about the video card. I want a curved monitor kinda, and a dual monitor setup. But I have been reading about the acer or benQ 27 inch and think I should get a 144 h monitor. Is that why people use 2 monitors for gaming these days because there aren't many bigger monitors with over 60 hertz?

The x34 is a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor at 34 inches with a slight curve @ 100Hz. I wish that I could afford one but I am planning on picking up the HTC Vive when it releases. Currently I am using a LG 34um57 that I picked up for $400. It's overclocked to 75Hz.
