Please have a quick look at my parts and lmk if I am out to lunch:

Going for a mid range gaming machine. Interested in some mild oc'ing. Mainly FPS. Trying to stay around $1300 excluding peripherals.

Case appearance important - don't like flashy but do want clear side.

Hope I'm on the right track. TIA!

pretty good. i would get the extreme4 unless there is some specific feature you need on the extreme6. also you could save some money on a the psu. with the money saved you could get a 7970. also probably be fine with 8GB for memory depending on what you use your computer for.

non modular and modular psu.

Appreciate the advice. Will look into maybe saving on PSU. 850W was probably stupid overkill. Is modular very important ?
Need to look into extreme4 vs 6 in more detail.

yea if you don't plan on going sli/crossfire you could get away with a 550-600 watt psu. those xfx psu are just rebranded seasonic psu's so they are good. you will appreciate a modular psu when i comes time to try hiding all the left over cables.

Very nice list of hardware, but Windows 8? Do some research there my friend...
You don't nessessarily have to spend that much on a mouse, I just grabbed a gigabyte M6900 for 16 euro and I love it!
What the others are saying regarding RAM is correct. For gaming you only will need 8GB, usually less than that. That being said, RAM is sooo cheap...
Other than that, happy building!

Thanks. Will probably take the advice on ram - can always add in future if I need.

Regards windows 8 I thought someone would comment. TBH I have been away from PC gaming for awhile and don't yet understand implication of 7vs 8 for gaming. My girlfriend will use the machine for some media consumption and casual use and she seems to have taken a liking to 8. Helps my cause if she is happy.... Will I have huge headaches if I only have 8 installed? I need to do more reading.

Well neither one offers advantages specifically to gamers, its just that if you like to manage your games yourself, W8's media "simplicity" will probably just get in the way. I have stuck to windows 7 myself and should probably do more reading myself... Don't want to derail the thread either, just wanted to make sure you are think about your OS as well as your hardware...
