First time build: My Computer keeps crashing

My computer keeps crashing and my driver Standard VGA Graphics Adapter has a problem. Unfortunately the person that built it is now deployed.

All of the parts are good name-brands, but failures do happen.

You're going to have to narrow down the problem to what part is failing.

I would start with a memory test. Memtest is easy to boot and use. Just find someone to burn the ISO to a DvD for you.

After running that for 2-3day strait, if you get no problems, then you need to test the HD next. I'm not sure what is a good program to check HDs for errors.

If all of that works, then you need to test the graphics card. Simplest way is to use another card to see if the problem goes away.

ok so I forgot to add that the graphics card mentioned above was not put in my computer because my computer refused to download the drivers, at all so instead I have a amd radeon hd 6970 and it is the one that is now crashing...someone suggested I switch to a nvidia graphics card but since its having so much trouble I dont want to order the wrong one again

Is your computer locking up or restarting? If so, when are these occurrences happening (during video games, basic computer work, etc..)?

It only crashes during games and when it plays it wont toggle.....so racing games wont turn and my player wont jump...and if I want to scan the area it wont do that either..on the other hand I can watch videos and blu-rays no problem

When you use the onboard video does it do anything? And by crashing do you mean freezing/locking up, glitches, restart or system shutdown?
