Hey, I’m looking to do my first build with a budget of around $900. The system will be used mostly for 3d modeling, rendering, and simulations using programs such as SolidWorks or ProEng, with a little bit of gaming on the side. I’ve come up with my basic build located here:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1WOhs

I chose the Motherboard to be 2-way SLI capable if i decide to go that route in the future, other features like memory speed and the number of SATA ports isn’t too important to me, i don’t plan on overclocking the memory.

I chose the 3770k because of its multi-threading and overclocking capabilities as this will aid me in CFD calculations. I plan to do an initial light overclocking, hence the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus.
As far as memory is concerned, I’m just looking for a cheap reputable company total of 16 GB, I chose the corsair DDR3-1600 because it was on sale.

Storage, not to important I plan on getting a SSD in the future but chose something cheap just to get me started.

Video card, have a PCI-e 2.0 card already, plan on upgrading in the future. (Motherboard is PCI-e 3.0 and 2.0)

Power supply and case, again I’m not picky chose a cheap reputable brand corsair 750W bronze should be ample to power my setup with a lot of wiggle room for the future, plus it was on sale. The case is basic, I’m not looking for flashy just more of a sleeker type.

Operating system, I have a copy of Windows 7 home premium 64Bit I just need a CD-key. Can I purchase just a licence from Microsoft?

Let me know what you guys think, add or remove things? Items that are not well matched? Over or under estimated? Generally I’m looking for a “non-flashy” setup, I’m not going to be bragging to my friends I just want a powerful machine so I can complete my work efficiently.

Thanks,
Dan.

here is your build with optimized parts :
i7 haswell
z87 mobo OC, on sale
212 evo
2x 8GB in one kit
XFX 750 instead of corsair CX
i am not sure what GPU you want.... because the budget is pretty tight for high end GPU
