Hello Forum,
I have been looking at building my own PC lately and was wondering if I make a list of the parts I want, could anyone tell me if they are okay. I have been building radios for about 15 yrs and am comfortable with electronics but never have build a computer before, I am old and bored and want to learn something new. Thanks for any help. I will post the list if anyone can help.

AMD FX is not a good investment right now - it's a platform that's at the end of the road and is going to be replaced relatively soon. It also has no upgrade path - the only upgrade option is the 9590 which is not a good processor. If you're going to go AMD the 860K is a decent option, but the Core i3-6100 beats all of those.

Try this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($112.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Asus H110M-A Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($58.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($49.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5"...

I will be buying my parts in the United States unless anyone has suggestions of cheaper and reliable places elsewhere.
The PC will be used for gaming for the kids and browsing and videos, I do videos on my radio builds. As far as a budget $500 - $600, cheaper is always better though. Since I am doing this project between my other work I will be building this over a month or so. I haven't learned all the tech terms for PC building it is a far difference from building & repairing radios.

What I've come up with, ( Any suggestions are welcomed highly! )

Processor:AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-Core 3.5 GHz (4.1 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W

Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 6 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), gray USB 3.0 ATX

Case: Rosewill Galaxy-01 - Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)

Hard Drive: TOSHIBA Desktop Internal Hard Drive HDWD110XZSTA 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache

VGA: MSI GeForce GT 610 DirectX 11 N610GT-MD2GD3/LP 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x

Optical Drive: LG Internal 24x SuperMulti DVD Rewriter with M-Disc Support

PSU: CORSAIR CXM series CX750M 750W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRO

Cooling: DEEPCOOL Gamer Storm CAPTAIN 120 CPU Liquid Cooler AIO Water Cooling

I still need to find a multicard reader for SD/MMC & etc.

Thank you for such a quick response and any help or suggestions are very appreciated!

That will be a much better use of $550 - $600.

Great! Thanks for the guidance, I will look into all these items you have posted. All the talk out there about more cores and high Ghzs it gets a little confusing. I can talk all day about RF power and modulation to power ratio with radios, but this is a new world for me. Thanks again g-unit1111
