APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Sometime within the next month.

BUDGET RANGE: Total, I am planning on spending around $1000

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming, Movies, Internet

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: I already bought a XFX HD 4870 for about $125 and also the g9 mouse for $24 and 1080p 24" Dell for $185.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg is great. Otherwise wherever a deal is

PARTS PREFERENCES: No preferences.

OVERCLOCKING: Yes but not crazy overclocking. Just enough so I am not "wasting" any speed that I could be getting out of my processor w/o needing to worry about cooling.

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Probably just crossfire seeing that I already bought a Radeon GPU.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: already got 1080

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I want a nice gaming computer that is easily upgradeable and of course for movies and browsing as well. Here are my specs so far:

Mobo: ASUS P6T SE LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard: $195 AR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6813131386

CPU: i7 920: $280 (unless of course I can get someone I know at best buy to get me one cheaper ) I am thinking the i7 because it seems like newer games are starting to take advantage of more cores lately??? correct me if im wrong. (I am sure you will haha)

PSU: PC Power & Cooling S75QB 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply: $120
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6817703009

RAM: OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800): $80 AR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6820227365

Hard Drive: HITACHI 0A38016 1TB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - OEM: $75
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6822145233

DVD Drive: HP DVD Burner: $26
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6827140032

Case: COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP: $80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6811119137

Need suggestions on a Keyboard. Also wondering if that hard drive is ok for a main hard drive. This is my first build so any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Nice.

Blech. I might use the Gigabyte UD3R.

Although, if money was that tight I would probably go with an AM3 X4 955 rig instead. Save a good bit towards GPU power that way. You could buy a second 4870 up front.

I would go with the more dependable WD for my HD.

See, here's a nice combo with a good MB:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.203158

That leaves you with almost enough to add that second GPU right there, and that's where you'll see the performance upgrade.

Buy a red PSU and save 10 bucks:

Hey thanks so much for the advice!

I had looked at that Gigabyte Mobo and the few things that turned me off to it was the fact that there were "only" 4 memory slots and it "only" supported 16 GB of memory vs the 24GB of the other one. Also I can get the other one for the same price with a coupon. Is there a reason you suggest the Gigabyte Mobo? Is there something that I missed? I am very open to suggestions!

Great! I think ill go with that HD.

So if I go with the AMD CPU/MB would I be able to upgrade my CPU without having to upgrade my MoBo in a couple years? I guess i am just assuming since the i7 is a new socket type intel will be going with that type for a while and when i want a faster processor I can just upgrade. If I am wrong in this assumption or if the AMD will be upgradeable please let me know. Also I noticed that the mobo for the AMD is Dual Channel and not Tri channel. Is that going to make a noticeable difference?

Also, thanks for the PSU suggestion, I think ill go with that instead!

Here's a board that does SLI and Crossfire with a simple bios update.
