First time building a pc, help?

Hey i'm planning on building a general gaming pc with the ability to record guitar audio through an external audio interface, Have no idea about compatibility and what not, would it be possible to get an opinion of this build?

Everything looks good from what I can see. PCPartpicker is pretty accurate when it comes to any compatibility issues but everything I see should work without any issue. Normally I would say skip the sound card and save the money, but if you are planning to do some recording and other features beyond what your average PC user does then there's no harm in spending that extra money. Also, are you planning on overclocking? If not then you won't need the CPU cooler but if you are then keep the Evo 212 and be sure to add a few extra fans to your case as well.

I didn't realize that the M5A97 costs less than the MSI board but I like Asus products and would go that route. As far as the CPU, I'm not sure the 8 cores versus 6 cores will make a huge difference but if it can be factored in with your budget then go with the bigger and badder. If nothing else, it can't hurt and may have more flexibility for use in the long term.

it was in close range for his budget so i though to fit it into the build. Though there might not be much difference in the game-plays at-least. But as such it gives more future proof and higher speed in different tasks
