Okay, so here goes.
Currently I have a GTX 970 ASUS Strix OC, a A960D+ Biostar MOBO, 8Gb ddr3, 650W RoseWill, PNY SSD 224Gb, a 224 GB hdd, and 8 Core AMD Vishera Black Edition 8350. (not OC currently)
My issue, the MoBo is CRAP. I bought the mobo and cpu and case already assembled. (for like 300) Yeah. I screwed up. The mobos VRMs constantly overheat, dropping my CPU multiplier from 20x to 7x every thirty seconds during heavy gaming. One second Im seeing 100+ FPS in newer games, next second i drop to 20-30 if that. then a few seconds later back up to 100+. I need to either A: Remove and reuse the CPU, replace into a new mobo with better VRMs, and get better consistent performance OR B: Buy a new CPU and Mobo, and entirely redo my setup.
Heres what I have room for. I can buy a new case. (*in fact, I want to, this one looks like shit, and my computer is obviously overheating. I live in a hot state, and my house stays real warm most days. 76F or more daily.)
I want to buy a new Mobo in the least.
I have 700 dollars to play with. A new graphics card is probably out of the question, but if I keep it cheap enough, I can buy a second GTX Asus Strix for around 150 from a friend of mine. Then I could do SLI. But thats only if I dont need to purchase both a new mobo and a new CPU.
Heres the issue. I have never EVER put in a new CPU, and Im really afraid of screwing this one up if I try to replace it into a new mobo. I read somewhere that you need to clean it with 100% alchohol and then let it dry (or dry it?). Then apply new heatsink gel, and then place into new Mobo (AM3+ socket for this CPU) I also hear that doing water cooling is difficult for a first timer.
Also, if I get new mobo and cpu, does that mean i have to reinstall my OS? if so, that needs to be factored into price
So TL;DR
I want to redo my setup, but I dont have the skills yet to do it myself. I need some help with how to probably seat CPUs, and also a parts list that stays below 700 dollars, that will give me a stable gaming performance.
