So I bought my first desktop at January 2017 and I wanna get into customizing my desktop. I mainly use my PC for video editing (20%) and gaming (80%) My specs are:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU 3.40GHz
Intel(R) HD Graphics 530
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti

I will possibly update my computer in about a good 8 months from now and would like suggestions. I'm considering about getting a MSi 1080 Ti but I'm not familiar with brands and compatibility issues and could possibly bottleneck my PC for gaming.
-Do brands matter other than reliability when it comes to compatibility? Is there a general rule to them?
-Considering I have integrated graphics, it's possible for me to get an external one with this mother board correct?
-I will also plan on getting a corsair case to provide more room for my PC so a model suggestion would be hepful.
- Would you recommend me a Hybrid SSD or a 128gb SSD + 2TB HDD combination instead? Again do brands matter?

Or would you suggest I use this PC then scrap it and just start over for a new gaming PC. Would there also be a guide for advanced or basic customization for PC?

Your CPU is not bad, it's a beast for gaming. If you purchase a 1080ti for 1080p gaming, you might run into some CPU bottlenecking, as it is more CPU bound at lower resolutions.

Brands do matter, but other than reliability, the performance does change across different manufacturers. Asus usually gives high priced cards for good performance, MSI, Gigabyte and Zotac also do offer good performance.
I'm assuming your 1080ti you have in mind is that Gaming X version, in which it isn't bad. An over locking champ actually

casing really matters on your personal preference, how it looks and everything. But if you really want me to give you a model, I would go for the Corsair spec alpha.

There are many good options for 128gb SSDs, like the 750Evo, Sandisk SSD plus, 850Evo, Or Crucial MX 300... it matters about the money you are willing to pay.
