First time gaming build, doing it right?

Hello, I am wanting to build a computer mainly used for gaming. This is my first time doing so and I just want to make sure all the parts would work together properly.

At the moment, I am using an Alienware M14x R1 laptop for gaming, everything stock except for an upgrade to the RAM. So it would be preferable if this new build is somewhat better, I don't want to downgrade.

I plan on playing on a resolution of 1920x1080, I would like the computer to play modern games from medium to high settings.

I would rather not overclock, as I have never done so before, but I am willing to try it if its worth it.

You build is fine but for the OS , you might want to get the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade for just $15 USD. People have done it on fresh install which means you dont need a previous OS and just install it onto a new drive. After you install it , you will have problem activating the windows, but just refresh the Windows 8 and activation will be fixed. There you go , having a new OS for just $15.

As for the RAM you should get 8GB instead of 6GB since most sticks are usually 4GB each so 2 sticks will be enough.

The rest of the component looks fine and your good to go.

Note that Windows home premium can hold a max of 16GB RAM while Windows 8 Pro can hold max of 512GB RAM. Though its almost impossible to get 512GB RAM for your computer , but you can upgrade in the future if you ever want like 32GB RAM or 64GB RAM lol. No harm getting Windows 8 Pro over Windows 7 , some people even fixed the start button for Windows 8 and its really a good OS.

Ok, I will use those parts in the build instead. A concern I forgot to mention is if the case will have enough room inside for all the parts and if the PSU is good enough to safely power everything. Is there anything else you would suggest to change?

Your case will be fine and I would stay with Windows 7; I understand that Windows 8 has issues.
