Hey guys,

I have some parts left over from when I did some upgrading on my gaming pc, and I want to repurpose them to make a small media server for my bedroom, just something to store videos and music on. Nothing fancy, but it should last me a good while. Here are the parts I have so far:

AMD FX-6100 3.3Ghz CPU
ASUS M5A78m-LX Plus Motherboard (Micro ATX)
Cougar Spike mATX Tower
Kingwin 650w PSU

I would like to work with the parts I already have so please do not suggest I switch to Intel. I would rather not spend more than I need to.

As far RAM, storage, and OS, what do you guys suggest? I was toying with the idea of setting up RAID but I only have two slots for hard drives (that and my knowledge of RAID is very limited; never tried it before). RAID 0 or 1 would work, but I'm kind of leaning towards a 2tb single hard drive.

I apologize for not posting system specs before. I didn't think it would be relevant in this case since I was just looking for a general suggestion.

Any help you guys can give would be appreciated. This is my first crack at building a server and I hope it turns out well.
