I am building an HTPC, but it is my first time and I need help. Its main duty will be playing mounted DVD and blu ray ISO's, I have an extensive collection and do not wish to sacrifice on quality or convert the file types, so this is a must. Also, streaming netflix, hbo go, hulu, etc.
Because of the size of the collection I will need a lot of storage space, at least 6 TB to start and room to expand.
I would like to run windows 8 on the system, first because I am familiar with the interface and like it, and also because I want to take advantage of the storage spaces feature to make a 1 storage pool across several drives for easy management / network sharing.
being an HTPC, it will be in my living room, so it has to look decent and be relativity quiet.
I planned on using the fractal node 304 for the case for its looks and 6 drive bays, but I need some help picking a cpu and mobo
obviously the CPU must be able to handle all multimedia tasks without stuttering without breaking the bank, I was leaning towards an APU how nice they can be on the wallet
As far as the mother board, the more sata ports the better but other than that I do not know too much about what might make one mother board better than another for this type of build.
Im open too any and all suggestions, any advice (as well as money anyone can save me) would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!!!!!
