First time OCing

So I had built my first gaming rig and I oced the cpu i tried to put it at 4.8ghz but it went to 4.9ghz instead not that I mind but What I want to know is if im running my computer overall optimally. I use my pc to mine and gaming and stream(not at the same time of course) my temps at least from temp cores my avgs are around 38 to 40 on idle I think. Not sure what they really reach or how to test them.
Im pretty novice with computer stuff so not sure how optimal my pc is running. Core volts on the cpu are at 1.308 according to cpu Z. Not sure what else to look for.

PC specs:
I7-8700k w/ evga clc 280 aio
Evga 1080 ti ftw3 hybrid
16gb Evga supersc ddr4 3200 ram
Aorus z370 Gaming K7 mobo
Evga 750w P2 PSU

Is this a bios overclock or software?

You can run benchmarks and compare to similar systems to determine if computer is "running optimally".

I run Prime 95 version 26.6 small fft to test cpu cooling solution(about an hour), 80c I am concerned, 85 I stop test and reevaluate cooling.

I then test overall system stability with a mixture of OCCT, Prime 95 blend and Realbench. Realbench, Occt and Prime 95 are going to use AVX instructions depending on Version used. Think multiple hours each for these tests.

When testing and AVX instructions are present two things are going to happen, you're going to need more voltage and as a result you're going to produce more heat, Remember this! An AVX offset is often needed to maintain higher OC.

Take your time, test, go slow and learn as you slowly step up. Learn all you can about secondary voltages, io,sa, ect.

For now you should find what your cooling is capable of, so down load P95 version 26.6 and HWINFO64. Start small fft test and keep an eye on core temps. Give it about an hour and if no workers stop, no WHEA errors show and temps stay around 80c then continue on to one or two of the other test mentioned earlier.

So I just downloaded a newer version, about to test it out, thanks for all the information.
Also I don't know I think I used the bios at first, but then I used the intel tuning utility program.

Okay if not 26.6 then add this to local.txt in prime95 folder, CpuSupportsAVX=0.

I added that and tried again my temps were around 80-85

What is vcore under load?

by vcore do you mean core voltage? I lowered it to 1.29but from looking at cpu-z it goes to 1.28 to 1.308

I also have an I7 8700k With an EVGA CLC 280 and when I play it goes to 60ºC and reaches 65ºC without the air conditioning, here in Argentina 30ºC. But when I turn on the air conditioning and remove the lid of the cabinet, it goes to about 45-50ºC when playing. And on iddle 30-35

To be honest I havn't really messed with my processor, I just overclocked it when I got it to about 4.9ghz and left it there.
Temps are usually around 35c-40c on idle.
When playing something like Fortnite maxed out, my temps are around 45-66, not sure about pubg since I don't play that much and when I do I tend to not pay attention to my temps lol.
