Nope, changing the processor won't allow you to overclock either. Further, your system's motherboard is a Foxconn Socket 939 motherboard with a uBTX form factor based on the Nvidia 6100 chipset. If your system had a mATX motherboard you could consider swapping it out for an AM2 based motherboard with the same chipset.
But with the motherboard you've got you're pretty much stuck where you are.

Sorry man, usually those computers have the BIOS locked, not just the CPU.

Maybe you would like to build a computer. You can get a pretty nice setup for not too much money.

Let us know if you need help with that.

Correct. Double check with gateway and see what socket your chip is. If it's socket 939 the bad news is there's not much available for 939 as it's so old. The good news is AMD stuff is dirt cheap. For 250 bucks you could probably have decent chip, board and case. If you want a full build, expect probably 500 dollars at least, depends what you wanna spend.

I have a gateway computer and it can be oc'ed by increasing the FSB. To do this, enter the BIOS and simultaneously hit "ctrl F1". This unlocks the the FSB for adjustment. Unless you are adding extra fans/cooling, I suggest no more than a 6-10 point increase. That will increase your cpu speed 150-200 mhz on average. Note that if you use the restart button, it will often times reset to factory settings, instead shut down and restart.

Good Luck

If you're going to purchase a new motherboard go for an asus, i've got an asus m2a-vm which is great for overclocking amd chip's. I currently have my 3800+ running (for the last year) at 2.7 (2.4 default) and it hasn't fallen over yet ! Also, good cooling is a 'must have'. Just make sure you increase the fsb in small increments.
