First Time Overclocker Setup

Hey all, I got a couple questions to ask for any pros in the Overclocking / PC building realm. Over the past weeks I've been banking all my $$$ to finally save up for a new rig and this is gonna be a first time build. Most of my friends build their own PC's so I def have experience as well as having read reviews and comparisons on Toms and other sites. Im doing the whole NewEgg.com Card dealio so Ive def got some money to spend but im hoping to keep it around 2Gs.

So far this is my set up just wondering what others think. Also after I get it I plan on reading tutorials to overclock it so thats gonna be the main goal. The use of the PC is going to be Video Editing as well as playing vid games on the side.

This is the set up so far, any comments or suggestions would be greatly helpful. I already switched from a MSI board I formerly selected to a DFI board from a fellow gamer who suggest that they were the best for overclocking. Any other comments about case (my friends got a lian-li and it stays really cool but its also not OC'd) PCU (Def wanna go intel over AMD) or vid card would help me with my build. Or any ways to save money.

I have some suggestions for you to lower your cost and to greatly improve your machine's performance. First of all, your case seems to be a bit weird in design. Its not a bad case, but with that kind of money, you can definitely get a case that looks much better.

This is the case I purchased and I've heard good reviews about it. (Not to mention how it is also cheaper)

Now for the processor, unless you're and overclocker or not, I think the e6750 is better because its over a 100 dollars cheaper and you can easily over clock it to 3.2 with the right stuff (which I will include in this post)

Now for the CPU heat sinker, I think the tuniq tower or the thermaright 120 extreme are the better choices. They may be big, but the will do a much better job then the 9700 for the same price. (these two air cooling cpu heat sinkers are the best on the market, however, they are very large and you must watch your case's size. I do believe your case be able to fit it.)

Now for the arctic silver 5 stuff, just get the oem version thats 4.99, you dont need 15 grams of that stuff.

In addition, if you're not interested in sli, don't get the board you have right there. Just get the abit pro p35. Its super easy to OC on that board and its very user friendly. That board is currently 180, but there is 40 dollars rebate if you can find it.

So if you were to follow my set up, you could save yourself 100 the CPU+ 100 for the board + 10 bucks on the glue

Lol thats 220! Unless you want sli, go for that that 680 i board and go dual 8800s! wow.. then you got yourself a god there =]

Oooh, nice build. I have the same mobo and love it. Over clocks like a dream. However, I would definitely get an Abit IP35 Pro right now because they are much better OCers than the 680i. An E6750 G0 will save you money and OC very nicely. Love the Raptor (have 3). I am testing out the IFX-14 from Thermalright and I am getting ambient temps at idle with a FM121 fan on my X6800. HIGHLY recommend that HSF. AS5 is fanboy stuff, get Shin-Etsu or MX-1. My partner just got done testing the G5 and loved it but we have a few more gaming mice to test out. Right now I am testing the G9 and it beats the G5 into the ground. (PM me for more).
