First time overclocker... will this fry?

I'm going to try my first attempt at an overclock. Been doing some reading and I think the hardware below will give me a fairly good bang for my buck. I'll probably CF the 5770 down the road but will use one for now.

The Antec 900 is supposed to keep things pretty cool but I'm wondering if anyone would suggest I get anything else to help keep things at a safe temp. In the winter it's no issue... but my place does get a little warm in the summer sometimes.

Also, if you really think one of the components below isn't money well spent please let me know.

Personally I'd leave out th velociraptor and for the same money get a 32GB SSD for windows and use a samsung spinpoint F3 500GB for the storage, also it will cost you less.

Would you JUST put windows on it? or programs/games as well?

Alot of people have had problems with asrock extreme.... may i suggest evga?

And i would also change that velociraptor to something better. Actually a 2tb 7200RPM drive is faster than a raptor.

If your aiming for 4.0 ghz your going to need better cooling. The stock cooler will get you to 3.1-3.3 ghz.
Go to http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm for heatsink ideas. Personelly i preffer the core contact freezer because you can get it for $15 on new egg.

If you get a 32gb drive it will hold the OS and 1 maybe 2 of your favorite games. Personelly i would preffer a 2TB drive because they are hella fast. 😗

No.

To hit 4 GHz you want something very good / new to OC'ing you want something easy to install.

The Prolimatech Megahalems fits both criteria. Here's what I'm putting in new builds Mega w/ IC Diamond TIM and twin Scythe PWMfans (make sure ya MoBo can handle the fan wattage).

As for the HD's, I'd grab a 500 GB per platter drive....the WD Black 2 TB model or any of the 500 GB platter ones...Seagate 7200.12 or Spinpoint F3. Use the compare function of THG benchmark performance charts to compare performance in various categories ....gaming, pictures and other Seagate wins.....movie maker and music, F3 wins.

So I'm going with your cooling suggestion Jack. Thanks! Would I want two of those fans I assume for some push pull?

Also made some other changes due to suggestions from here and other forums (video card, new HD, new Mobo, new Powersupply)

Please let me know what you think guys... and if I'll be safe OC'ing GPU, CPU, Memory with this setup...

Yeah looks pretty good. I would feel more comfortable if you went with a corsair PSU. I have had more than one OCZ PSU fail on me.

Don't forget the 3 way PWM splitter so you can plug both fans into the MoBo.

I'd also echo the shocked guy's advice.

For moderate OC's get a 650 watt Corsair TX or Antec Earthwatts
For serious OC's get a 650 watt Corsair HX or Antec SG

If noise is a concern, the Antec SG's are quieter though many peeps wouldn't hear anything overt heir CPU fans.
