First time overclocking, I need advice or Direction to relevant threads.

Hello everyone, thank you for taking the time. I felt like overclocking advice would mostly boil down to particular hardware configurations, and thought maybe I could ask advice, or direction to must reads for me. I looked through a few pages of the guides, but searching didnt pull up too much relevance for me, and I'm afraid that Ill follow a guide and it may not pertain to me and Ill mess something up.
This is my first build , and Im waiting on the parts to come in, but I want to research and be ready as far in advance as possible for if and when I try. I appreciate all the help, just getting a little overwhelmed finding direction.

I would duck the 700b like the plague as its a low quality unit. Otherwise, great build.

Thank you for the advice! What should I be looking for in a PSU? My boss who is a huge gamer also just suggested I get one 700w or above at least bronze, so my system has room to grow. I chose this one because of high ratings and review on Amazon, and thought it would be excellent. Is there any company in particular I should buy from? So far I've enjoyed the looks and reviews of Corsair products, although I have only experienced their ram.

Power supply arent that simply. You have to look at what capacitors are being used and the voltage ripple. You don't need 700w even with the biggest overclock. I would typically stick with corsair, evga, seasonic and xfx. Of course, all of those companies have made bad units, but most are excellent.

All P2s are based on Super Flower's Leadex Platinum platform, considered by many to be one of the best currently available.

Seriously though, for $10 more you get a fully modular PSU for way better cable management, platinum instead of gold, and 10 year warranty instead of 5. Oh and did I mention Superflower?

But still wtf is XFX o.o

edit: I looked at your pc part picker and I see that your PSU cheaper than the XFX and the one I recommended.

the total is $737.39 compared to your original $722.61 A little over $10 more for some very decent performance gains.

I'm an Nvidia fan but the GTX1050Ti should not exist. The RX470 easily outperforms it.

GPU: I Selected the RX470 ROG Asus Strix Overclocked Edition so you get a binned pre OC'd GPU and the really nice RGB lighting 😀 wooo!

RAM: I changed your RAM for a similar priced G.Skill Ripjaws X with tighter timings and better ratings and some decent overclock capability.

PSU: I changed your PSU to the EVGA 750 B2 I mentioned above. The Semi Modular design should make cable management a breeze, and the Superflower architecture is Highly recommended. (I have this PSU in my build.)

Being able to only use the cables you need leads to a neater build ;P

CPU Cooler Assuming noise is not an issue I changed your fan to the better performing Push-Pull Coolermaster Hyper D92 (I'm using this fan on my i7-6700K which I overclocked to 4.8Ghz keeps me at 26C idle and 70 under heavy heavy load. the fans at 100% aren't loud in my opinion ( I find the fan noise soothing). Usually I think it runs way to quiet.)

I am wondering why you picked red fans on such a blue build XD but hey it is your PC... with the RGB on the strix you could set the GPU lighting to red too or blue lol

Now for Overclocking
the Asus ROG strix RX470 will come with a tool called ASUS GPU Tweak II. It is extremely easy to use. It has some profiles straight from the factory. "Gaming, Overclock, and Silent" you can also create your own and set your fan curve etc.
Here is a great review. It includes how they overclocked it on page 12 so i linked you to page 12. Keep in mind it comes pre-overclocked and certified to work when set to overclock on the GPU tweak app so don't expect to be able to overclock it much higher.

If you already got the previous list. Don't worry about it ride the [strike]lightning[/strike] build a while. I would say you can still overclock with that PSU. But 3-5 years later it might go fizzle sizzle :lol: (Don;t worry even if it fizzles it shouldn't harm your Hardware because a specific part that I forgot the name of inside the PSU will fail first in order to avoid that. unless you are just really unlucky o-o Pray to RNGsus )

since you have the GTX1050Ti to Overclock Get EVGA precision or MSI afterburner turn the power target and temp target all the way up. Look in the settings of the OC software find the "unlock voltage" setting enable it then Max the Voltage slider (Don't worry about breaking it the 1000series cards are voltage locked by their Vbios to a safe voltage specified by Nvidia) raise the clock by +100 download this thing http://www.userbenchmark.com/ run it see if it fails or not and work your way from there (I suggest increments of 5-10). Don't worry if your entire screen goes berserk and turns into a shattered pink and green mess and then a BSOD XD it's just the GPU driver crashing. Power on the Pc and lower the clock if that happens.
Also if you notice any pink green or other types of artifacts running a game, lower the clock. Eventually you'll find a nice stable clock. Oh and raise your fan curve for the best possible OC.

As far as the CPU cooler, if you don't plan on upgrading your CPU. I suppose at some point you could get a better cooler. In my opinion get a better cooler whenever you need a higher overclock 😛

I just watched the Ryzen release and thought of you mentioning a hobby build over the next year.
Keep a close eye on the next intel CPU's. Because holy smokes Ryzen literally just roasted intel with their 8 core processors priced below and outperforming intel's Quad i7-7700K and Hexcores. Also keep an eye on their upcoming VEGA and lookout for Nvidia's response.

I am so happy AMD is finally stepping up. Now intel and Nvidia have a reason to give us better architecture improvements and lower prices
