First time Overclocking, I5-4690k

Hey, I want a little more performance in my system since games nowadays are getting more demanding. I know I need to upgrade my gpu but right now I don't have the extra funds to do that so I want to see if overclocking will affect anything.

Also when I have no intense programs running, at my desktop screen my CPU temp is around 42 degrees Celsius and I just wanted to know if that is a normal idle temp. Also my GPU temp being 33 degrees Celsius at idle also.

GPU: AMD Radeon R9 270 Asus OC Edition

PSU: EVGA 500w B1 80+ BRONZE

Motherboard: Asus Z97-A

RAM: 8GB DDR3 Kingston Fury (2x4GB)

Thing is idle temps mean nothing, idle things slow down, fans slow down, things idle hotter. It's the full load temps you want to look at.

Also, the 4690k is still a very good chip for gaming, In fact, the R9 270 is holding it back in many of today's games. You can look to get a very modest overclock of 4ghz to start, it should be easy for your chip to get.
