First Time Overclocking...Sony VAIO...

Okay, here is my PC specs:

Sony VAIO VGC-RC110G
I believe I have an OEM motherboard
Intel Pentium D 830 Processor 3.00 GHz
2 GB RAM
Cooling: Watercooling (came with VAIO)
CPU Temps: 50 C-55 C and a little less when idle...Is this okay?
630w Power Supply

Now I know I need to access the BIOS to mingle with the settings to up the performance level of my CPU, but...How? What is a safe level for this rig setup?

I hear it's relatively easy, but the changing of voltage etc. is way over my head. I just want to have the higher performance, but it doesn't need to be maxed out.

Pretty sure you can't overclock any name brand computers because they lock the FSB. Btw, if those are your idle temps with watercooling, something is wrong. Those temps would be ok if they were you load temps but idling there is WAY to high.

What should I do then about the temperatures? Should I replace the watercooling that came with the Sony VAIO with a more percise form of cooling? If so, what would any of you suggest?

That does seam pretty hot for watercooling.

My roommate has a VAIO computer and i think there is a setting in BIOS to overclock the CPU by like 10% but im not really sure. You dont have ful acces to the bios

Sometimes you can get around OEM BIOS locks by flashing a non-OEM BIOS of the same motherboard. I did it once on an old creative Blaster PC. You need to know the model of your motherboard tho. Use CPU-Z to find it out.

EDIT: The motherboard may have a BIOS write-protection on it tho, sometimes this is done with a simple jumper cap, and thats easy to fix. But first we need your motherboard model number.

If you're temps are that high in Speedfan on water than something is seriously wrong. Those would be high LOAD temps in speedfan. You wanna keep your temps in speedfan below 50C on load. Try downloading TAT or CoreTemp and see what temps they give you. But you may wanna reseat the water block and maybe add some AS5.

My MoBo is an Intel D945PPR D945GPR

I've heard upgrading my GPU would be the right step for cooling down my CPU.

Now that you've seen some pictures, would replacing the radiator and block with a Zalman (which I hear are percise and quiet) be worth it? Or anything else along these lines?

I have the same Sony RC110G unit.

Can I at this time replace the motherboard and CPU with a higher performing one? In other words, can I simply take the benefit of the cage, drives, power supply etc.? Thanks.

Sure you can replace the motherboard. Just be aware that this is a BTX, not ATX, case. Since BTX motherboards were short lived, there is probably limited room for improvement from the p45 chipset, but you may find something.
