[SOLVED] First time PC build, New Zealand. ($3000) Suggestions?

Hello! I’m interested in building my own pc for the first time. I’ll be upgrading from an entry level gaming laptop which is exciting. The last few years I've started playing more games on pc and my laptop isn’t really cutting it anymore. I’ve debated buying a ready build pc but I think it’ll be a fun experience to build my own plus be able to pick a new set up that works specifically for my needs. (and improve my knowledge on the subject)
I don't think I need the fanciest gaming pc, I’m looking for a middle of the road, solid gaming pc that will let me run most games without any trouble. And hopefully is easy to put together for a first time builder. :)
I play mostly RPGs, puzzle, fps and party games. I also have a lot of tabs open at once & lots of apps running at the same time so a pc that can handle many small tasks simultaneously would be great. (Though even my current laptop seems to do this okay)

I’ve done some research on the components available to me here in New Zealand but haven’t decided on any parts in particular and so far have only bought the monitor. I want to make sure everything I select is compatible, leaves room for upgrades in the future and most importantly -runs smoothly!

I’d love to hear any of your recommendations on what I should buy.
Thanks in advance ~Violet

Approximate Purchase Date: Ideally this october / november.

Budget Range: $3000 NZD (or $1800USD approx.)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Lots of surfing the internet and gaming + netflix

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: Entire PC (not keyboard/mouse/monitor)

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts:
PB Tech is the biggest store for parts here. https://www.pbtech.co.nz/
Computer Lounge is also available to me. https://www.computerlounge.co.nz/

Location: Auckland, New Zealand

Parts Preferences: I think I’d prefer AMD over intel. I like the look of the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D or AMD Ryzen 7 5900x CPU.

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 and 144hz refresh rate
I bought this monitor. LG UltraGear 27GN650-B 27" FHD IPS Gaming Monitor.

Additional Comments:

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading:

I have a 2 year old entry level gaming laptop. The MSI GF63 Thin 9RCX, i7 -9750H @ 2.60GHz.
-Which i love but it struggles with some games and overheats / is noisy with the fans. It has 16GB ram, 500GB storage and the GPU is Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

  1. I’d really like to be able to keep up with the games me and my friends want to play. (eg. bigger rpg and shooter games run very poorly like Outriders and back 4 blood.) The frame rate is low and makes it look a bit glitchy sometimes. Outriders, Witcher 3, Dying light etc will often run <20fps
  2. My laptop gets very hot playing some of the games and quite hot even while i’m just doing my regular multitasking.
  3. I also want more storage so I can keep my games downloaded.

Include a list of any parts you have already selected with descriptively labeled links for parts. Please do not post only links.

As mentioned above, I like the look of the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D or AMD Ryzen 7 5900x CPU.
I also like the GeForce 3060 GPU.
But I’m not committed to them. I haven’t settled on any parts and am open to suggestions.

Gaming far and away most important purpose?

Gaming 20% of the time or 80%?

Trying to fine-tune your requirements.

Can you expand on "like the look"?

I think new CPUs are just coming onto the market, so I'd probably lean toward newest generation stuff unless budget prohibits.

Thanks for your response!

Yes, gaming will be the main purpose of my new build. 70/30

By like the look of i mean, -When looking at the AMD benchmarks the Ryzen 7 5800X3D gave the highest average fps and even outperformed slightly the Ryzen 9 7950X. Plus it seemed to be within my budget and the reviews for this product have been good that i’ve seen.
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cpu-hierarchy,4312.html

Since laggy looking games and low fps is one of my main problems now, I’m looking for a pc that can help make my games run smoother.

And yeah, I was wondering whether or not it was worth waiting a while longer and seeing if I could pick up a CPU from the newest generation, it looks like some of them are available here now. But the benchmarks I’ve seen, I’m not sure if it’s worth it? since they perform similarly to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Possibly?

Benchmarks.

Gaming benchmarks?

General benchmarks?

All other things equal, I'd try to go with newest CPU generation. More CPU power helps in most operations and can extend the usable life of a given PC. Likely more cost-effective to spend on CPU now than to upgrade CPU only at a later date.

Reasons not to do that?

Strict budget. New generation CPU may your total cost up by X and you cannot or will not reduce the amount spent on other components by X to offset CPU costs.

It's on you to decide if or where it might be prudent to spend less on any of those other components.

You may be so gaming-centric that gaming benchmarks will drive your decisions...rather than overall performance. That's fine and your decision entirely.

Ultimately, the various choices (within reason) may not be as significant as you think. You can research for hundreds of hours and still end up in PC Hell by unforeseeable random chance due to quality control or software/OS issues over the medium to long term.

Hmm, you make a good point. I'm not sure but I think they were gaming benchmarks I was looking at. Though I'd love it to perform well across the board. Maybe the newer generation is the way to go.

And that's true, You can buy all the right parts but sometimes unexpected things still happen.
Appreciate the input.

some performance differences,
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-5700x/15.html (1080P, next page is 1440P where it all gets even closer)

I did forget windows so might have to lower gpu to the 3070 ti.

With the purchase date in mind would i wait untill Intel has show what it can do with the 13 series.
