Hi, I am currently looking to receive more feedback on a new system that I would possibly like to build myself. Any suggestions to upgrade/downgrade are more than welcome to help me out in any way.

-If you live in the united states...you might also consider buying from TigerDirect, an online store and they sell lots of good parts for very similar prices as newegg :)

-Side Note: 6GB is good, just make sure its Triple Channel

-Tigerdirect also sells very good barebone kit deals which can save you a lot of money so be sure to check those out.
 
Just a note: Windows 7 isn't free, and it may be a good idea to pre-order now for October purchase to save you money next March.

You might well step down to the Gig U3R to save $. You'd lose memory slots, triple xFire, and eSATA - but your config doesn't seem to say you'd be using them.

There are some optical drives cheaper than the samsung. You could shave a few dollars there.

As mentioned above, windows7 isn't free, it's just a trial version. You will eventually have to pay for the OS. Even with rebates, you can still RMA if you are within your time frame. You will get the refund minus the rebate amount.
 
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. With the changes suggested it's down to $1419 before MIR. I'd really like to still get it lower if at all possible. If I want this build to last me 5+ years with no real upgrades besides maybe replacements of broken parts and maybe crossfire later is i7/DDR3 the right way to go? How long will it be until it's not overkill?
 
If you don't get two 4870 and instead get a single 4890 it would help. Especially since you can get the other 4890 at a later time.
 
Well I had figured on just getting a single 4870 now and another one later. Is the 750W too much? Should I get a 650? I also changed the cooling to a Sunbeam Core-Contact Freezer with 10 MIR. $1417 total so far getting 95 back from MIRs.
 
If you want to xfire the 4870's or 4890's, I would go with the 750w. PSU's weaken with age, and the 650w wouldn't leave much headroom.

Combos are a good way to shave off some more $$. There are some real nice combos available with the gigabyte board and the i7 cpu.

With your plan of keeping it for ~5 years, the i7 is the way to go.

Thank you very much again everyone. I am pretty sure the system I am at now is what I am going to stick with, only have about 600 more to scrape together within the month.

Also that Thermal Compound stuff where do you even put it and how does it work? (Too lazy too look it up while eating/gaming)
 
Ah alright, thanks aford10. There is a good chance I won't be all alone while building the system. There is the possibility I will have a friend to help guide me so in the far future I can know better what I am doing, but if not I still hear it is easy.
 
Yeah I'm sure once I get it I'll do extensive reading to make sure I don't mess it up. If anything changes from my decision on buying I'll be back for more pro advice and if I am having problems with building I will be back as well. Thanks again for all the help everyone.
 
I just remembered I had a question regarding memory. The motherboard suggested "GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard" has listed "Memory Standard: DDR3 2000+/1333" does that mean the memory I originally planned on getting, OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)" would not work?

*Still sifting through all the things I had on there, double checking and seeing if I needed anything else(keyboard)!
 


That memory will work just fine on that board. :)
 
Yeah, for the motherboard i recommend for you, it just means ddr3 2000 is the maximum memory supported on stock speeds without over-clocking or anything, so 1600mhz ram will work at the speed of 1600mhz with no problems. However the fast ram supported will allow you to get really fast 2000mhz ram in the future if you ever need it :)
