Good day,

I need to build a pc that can run some 3d modeling programs/renderers but on a budget.
That is why I have chosen the i7-3770K CPU as the starting ground for my build with 16gb of RAM and a 250gb SSD.
The integrated GPU will be fine for now and if I need one later for games I will supplement with a ~200-300$ GPU later on.

As for the motherboard, PSU and case I have no idea. I would like to overclock the CPU slightly and have no need for SLI.
If you could give me some suggestions it would be a great help to get some direction for finalizing my build.

Don't need extra storage, windows, dvd writer and Peripherals.

Hez Peter Eter,

Your build is very decent for 3d modeling. However, I did some changes for you.

I added a CPU cooler so you can overclock without problem.
I downgraded a lil bit the CPU for the 3770 and the Motherboard is plenty enough for what you need.
I changed the SSD for a sandisk and added a 1TB HDD (you can change that but I figured you might need room for your projects)

You downgraded to a locked CPU and got a Z77 board? And the CX is a poor choice for power supply.

Changed things up to get you a better power supply, better CPU, much faster RAM. You'll want the faster RAM with this kind of work, you'll definitely notice the speed increase.

Yep the CPU was a mistake. My bad

And you think the stock cpu cooler will be enough if he overclocks it ?

good stuff. I will add the cooler, will it fit in the miniATX if I buy a GPU later on like the GTX 760?

GeForce GTX 760:
GTX 760 Graphics Card Dimensions:
4.376 inchesHeight
9.5 inchesLength
Dual-slotWidth
Thermal and Power Specs:
97 CMaximum GPU Temperature (in C)
170 WGraphics Card Power (W)
500 W recommended

and will the 550w power requirement be sufficient. the pcpartpicker estimated 170watt for the build and the GTX is another 170watt =340watt.
how did you decide the XFX psu is better?

Changed the ram to 2400 frequency.

Final question; Are there any parts that you would prefer in exchange for a small price increase? I think I can stretch the budget to 850-900$ if I sell my grandma's walker.

Assuming you're talking about the Core 1000 I linked above? If so, then yes that GPU will certainly fit :)

550w is more than plenty. That system at full gaming load will draw you around 325-350w, and if overclocked no more than 375w.

XFX is built by SeaSonic, which is top notch quality when it comes to power supplies. The CX series is built using inferior and small capacitors, which aren't built for stress. Overclocking and running higher end GPUs can draw some power, and I wouldn't want you risking an entire $800 build on a power supply when you could have avoided the issue by paying an extra $10.

Best analogy for how to expand the budget, I'm going to keep that for my own use later lol I think really the only thing I would change is maybe upgrade to the WD Caviar Black HDD if you need the storage, as that'll help saving/loading times for projects, and spend whatever else you feel comfortable spending on the CPU cooler. A good budget cooler for $30 is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, but you could spend about $70 and get the Noctua NH-D14 and get an extremely efficient and quiet cooler that will allow you to overclock pretty dang well.

This is what I recommend for an $800 Build.
