Hello hello!
So it's reached that period where I feel that my ancient Acer Travelmate 6292 laptop belongs in a museum rather than my main form of entertainment (as interesting relics of the past are). The plan is to construct a desktop to use in my room mainly for gaming and general usage like websurfing but also doing a little programming for Engineering course and also perhaps some video editting as a hobby.
Approximate Purchase Date: Sunday, or throughout the rest of the week.
Budget Range: The aim was $1500 for everything, but a little bit over is fine.
System Usage from Most to Least Important: General usage, Gaming, Programming, Video Editting
Are you buying a monitor: Yes
Parts to Upgrade: Starting from scratch
Do you need to buy OS: I think I have a copy of Windows 7
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: http://www.msy.com.au/, http://www.scorptec.com.au/, http://pccasegear.com/
Overclocking: I don't think I should need to overclock with what I've got. The GPU might be factory clocked.
SLI or Crossfire: At this point no, but I want to keep the option open.
Your Monitor Resolution: Something between 1280 x 1024 ---> 1920 x 1200? Only buying 1 monitor for now, maybe getting a second in a couple years.
I have been all over the internet doing research and reading guides, this is what I've come up with.
CPU:: i7 3770k Probably a bit overkill, but parents want something future proof.
GPU: Powercolor Radeon HD7950 PCS+ 3GB Boost Heard good reviews about the 7950 for value for money. Sapphire branded ones are like $30~$40 more, so switch with Powercolour?
RAM:Corsair Vengeance 8GB Kit(4GBx2) DDR3-1600 CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 RAM is cheapish, right? So I can get more if I need more later
HDD: WD 3.5" Blue 1TB WD10EZEX SATA3 64M 7200rpm HDD The Samsung F3 Spinpoint is like impossible to find so I went with WD instead. The WD blue is like $30 cheaper than the black.
SSD: Intel 520 Series 120GB SATA3 Solid-state Drive Intel 520 over OCZ Vertex 4?
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H ATX Motherboard D3H is l$18 cheaper than UD3H
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Titanium USB3 Mid Tower Case Without PSU Heard good reviews, looks okay. Wish I could get the white one. :c
PSU:Coolermaster GX Power 750Watt PSU Power Supply Unit I might be using two mintors in future, also slim chance I might use Crossfire. Is 750W still too much considering that?
Fan: The Fractal R4 comes with 2 fans, one for intake, one for outtake. Do I need more?
Opticdrive: LG Blu-Ray Combo So I can play CD games and watch bluray movies
Monitor:Haven't picked one yet. Thinking 21 inch?
Keyboard: Haven't picked one, looking for something around $50. No wireless please.
Mouse: Haven't picked one, looking for something around $50. No wireless please.
Current total: $1337
---------------
[1] Is everything compatiable? Any glaring errors?
[2] Anything you would change? I'm pushing the budget already though
[3] Any suggestions for mouse/keyboard/monitor? Or tips?
Thanks,
EP
