Hi i was wondering if a MSI Gaming Intel Skylake B150 LGA 1151 DDR4 USB 3.1 ATX Motherboard (B150 Gaming M3) motherboard, would fit in my xps 8300 i7 computer case..? i just bought it, and i'm hoping it does because my current motherboard is going bad (usb dcing on and off)

Sorry - there is no way fitting atx board into matx case. Also i7 2600 is not compatible with B150 GAMING M3 motherboard.
As you can see in this picture, the case has 4 expansion slots.

Your motherboard requires case with 7 expansion slots:

Any motherboard so long as it's matx will fit inside the Dell XPS 8300 chassis. The thing you should be careful about though is that the Dell XPS 8300 came with a first gen cor i processor while the board you're looking at is meant for the 6th generation of Core i processors by Intel. Socket wise the old processor will not drop into the new motherboard. The board however will drop inside the chassis.

That's a shame because i already bought it thinking it would fit. and i have the i7 2600 non k version. i guess i'll have to buy a case for it.. what do you guys recommend for a case to fit the motherboard i bought? also can i make it fit? it has 6 standoffs. and ik ATX says 9. im pretty sure you can make 6 work.. but i have a big graphics card gtx 970 msi gaming 4g

Choice of cpu depends on budget and also on workload.
So - how much are you willing to spend?
And what are primary uses of the pc for you? Basic productivity, office software? Gaming? Video editing?

And for cases - you'd first need some idea, what you expect from it?
For example:
window/no window/psu at top/psu at bottom/easy accessible hdd bays/ssd mounts/high airflow ventilation/water cooling/etc
Look at some models, check pricing:

Well i'm a heavy gamer, i love gaming. and budget is around cheap. like maybe under $200. i'm just looking to further enhance my gaming experience. dell xps 8300 case does not fit my needs. its too small to do any kind of upgrading.
