sound stopped working on dv6 after owning it 6 mos. (Actually it worked on a few Youtube videos, but did not work on most, or mp3 files (error C00D11B1), or system sounds in Sounds control panel).
Fix was to rollback driver of IDT HD audio codec- and install latest from HP support website. (not sure that rollback was necessary)
The installed driver was ver 6.10.6418.0 2012/07/24. (HP tool and Windows Update Driver said it was the latest already).
the hp site had
Version:6.10.6381.0 2012-08-13 ,
a later date but earlier version num.
Sound worked after installing it.
